Acute food insecurity and malnutrition have reached alarming levels worldwide, with the number of people facing severe hunger doubling over the past decade, according to a new joint report released by the United Nations, the European Union, and global partners.<\/p>\n

The report highlights a troubling trend: while humanitarian needs continue to rise, funding for food assistance has declined to levels last seen in 2016. This mismatch is leaving millions of vulnerable people without adequate support, particularly in regions affected by conflict, economic instability, and climate-related shocks.<\/p>\n

Hunger Deepens Amid Conflict and Funding Gaps<\/h4>\n

According to the findings, the same countries continue to bear the brunt of repeated food crises, trapped in a cycle driven primarily by armed conflict and worsened by insufficient financial resources. Vulnerable populations are being hit the hardest, with children and marginalized communities facing the greatest risks of malnutrition and starvation.<\/p>\n

Cindy McCain, Executive Director of the World Food Programme, said the situation has deteriorated significantly since the report was first introduced a decade ago.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been ten years since this report first exposed the scale of global hunger. Unfortunately, the situation has only worsened,\u201d she said. \u201cSevere hunger has doubled, and famine has already been declared in two regions. We have the tools and knowledge to prevent this\u2014but without adequate funding and an end to conflicts, progress will remain limited.\u201d<\/p>\n

Call for Shift Toward Long-Term Resilience<\/h4>\n

The report also stresses the need for a strategic shift from reactive crisis response to long-term resilience building. Experts emphasize that better data systems, early warning tools, and proactive interventions can help mitigate the worst impacts of food crises.<\/p>\n

Helder da Costa, Secretary-General of the g7+, called for a transition toward self-reliance in conflict-affected countries.<\/p>\n

He urged governments and global stakeholders to invest in local food systems, remove political and structural barriers to food access, and align humanitarian, development, and peacebuilding efforts into a unified strategy. \u201cThis moment demands not only stronger response, but a fundamental shift in how we address food crises,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Urgent Need for Global Action<\/h4>\n

The report underscores that without immediate and coordinated global action, the crisis is likely to deepen further. Climate shocks, economic disruptions, and ongoing conflicts continue to push millions toward hunger, reversing years of development gains.<\/p>\n

Global agencies warn that preparedness and early intervention are key to protecting lives, sustaining livelihoods, and preventing famine. However, achieving these goals will require renewed political commitment, increased funding, and stronger international cooperation.<\/p>\n
