In an inspiring and forward-looking address, Kavinder Gupta presided over the second convocation ceremony of Sardar Patel University in Mandi, urging young graduates to become active contributors to the vision of a developed India by 2047.<\/p>\n

Addressing a packed gathering in the culturally rich town often referred to as \u201cChoti Kashi,\u201d the Governor described the convocation not merely as an academic milestone but as a celebration of knowledge, heritage and social responsibility. He called upon students to rise above personal ambitions and channel their education, innovation and ethical values toward nation-building.<\/p>\n

Drawing inspiration from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, after whom the university is named, the Governor underscored the enduring relevance of unity and national integrity. He praised the institution for installing Patel\u2019s statue on campus, describing it as a powerful symbol of commitment to national ideals. He further encouraged students to uphold the spirit of \u201cEk Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat\u201d in their personal and professional lives.<\/p>\n

Commending the university\u2019s rapid growth since its establishment in 2022, he highlighted key initiatives such as the phased implementation of the National Education Policy, the creation of a Bharatiya Gyan Parampara cell, the organisation of convocations in traditional Indian attire, and the strengthening of academic systems. He noted that these efforts reflect a balanced approach that integrates modern education with cultural roots.<\/p>\n

The Governor also lauded SPU Mandi\u2019s initiatives to celebrate the 500-year historical legacy of Mandi, stating that such efforts demonstrate a deep respect for heritage and identity.<\/p>\n

Focusing on the role of youth in shaping the nation\u2019s future, he emphasized that flagship initiatives like Aatmanirbhar Bharat, Digital India and Viksit Bharat 2047 demand not just professional success but active civic participation. He stressed that knowledge alone is insufficient in today\u2019s world, and must be complemented by innovation, ethical conduct and compassion.<\/p>\n

Encouraging students to embrace their responsibilities as citizens, he urged them to work for the upliftment of weaker sections, adopt drug-free lifestyles, safeguard the environment and preserve India\u2019s rich cultural heritage. Reflecting on the deeper meaning of education, he explained the distinction between \u201cDikshant\u201d \u2014 the beginning of a new journey \u2014 and \u201cShikshant,\u201d the end of formal education, reminding graduates that learning is a lifelong pursuit.<\/p>\n

A total of 575 students were conferred degrees during the ceremony, while 40 outstanding students were awarded gold medals for academic excellence.<\/p>\n

Vice Chancellor Prof. Lalit Kumar Awasthi presented the university\u2019s progress report, highlighting achievements including research projects worth Rs. 2.30 crore, over 60 research publications, two approved patents and 22 Memorandums of Understanding with national and international institutions.<\/p>\n

Registrar Shashi Pal Negi delivered the vote of thanks.<\/p>\n

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including MLA Chander Shekhar, Deputy Commissioner Apoorv Devgan, Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar, Assistant Commissioner Sunaina Sharma, along with faculty members, students, parents and staff.<\/p>\n
