Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday inaugurated the new Eastern Railway line of Israel Railways alongside Transportation Minister Miri Regev, describing the project as a transformative step for Israel\u2019s transportation infrastructure and economic development.<\/p>\n

The inauguration ceremony was held at the Samaria-Tayibe station, where government officials and railway authorities marked the launch of the major rail corridor aimed at easing congestion on Israel\u2019s heavily used coastal railway network.<\/p>\n

Addressing the gathering, Netanyahu said the new Eastern Railway would significantly reduce traffic pressure on the coastal route by creating a parallel transportation corridor linking central and eastern regions of the country.<\/p>\n

He emphasized that the project would benefit all citizens of Israel, \u201cJews and Arabs alike,\u201d by improving connectivity, accelerating freight movement and boosting economic activity across multiple regions.<\/p>\n

According to Netanyahu, one of the key advantages of the new rail corridor is the separation of freight and passenger traffic. Freight trains currently operating on the coastal line often slow passenger movement, and redirecting them to the Eastern Railway is expected to improve the overall speed and efficiency of rail transportation nationwide.<\/p>\n

The Prime Minister described the railway as part of a much broader national transportation vision stretching from Kiryat Shmona in northern Israel to Eilat in the south.<\/p>\n

He revealed plans for future high-speed rail expansion, including sections capable of speeds reaching 250 kilometers per hour. Netanyahu also spoke about a long-term proposal for an underground bullet train system connecting Karmiel and Be\u2019er Sheva in a matter of minutes.<\/p>\n

Calling the railway project a symbol of Israel\u2019s rapid development, Netanyahu said the government had fulfilled major infrastructure commitments despite facing ongoing security and geopolitical challenges.<\/p>\n

He acknowledged that Israel continues to deal with a \u201cvery complex situation\u201d amid ongoing regional tensions and conflict, but said the government remained committed to advancing long-term development projects.<\/p>\n

The Prime Minister also reflected personally on the route, recalling that he once traveled and cycled along the same path now transformed into a major rail line.<\/p>\n

Transportation Minister Miri Regev praised the project as a milestone for national mobility and regional development, highlighting its expected impact on reducing road congestion, improving logistics and strengthening public transportation accessibility.<\/p>\n

The Eastern Railway project is expected to play a central role in Israel\u2019s future transportation strategy by connecting industrial zones, improving freight logistics and supporting population growth in central and eastern regions of the country.<\/p>\n

Officials believe the expanded rail infrastructure will also contribute to environmental sustainability by encouraging greater use of public transport and reducing dependence on road-based freight movement.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
