BJP Sweeps Mandi Zila Parishad Polls; Congress Suffers Another Major Setback.<\/h1>\n

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has emerged as the dominant political force in the Mandi district Zila Parishad elections, securing a massive victory on 25 out of the 36 seats, dealing another significant political blow to the ruling Congress in one of Himachal Pradesh’s most politically important districts.<\/p>\n

Although the elections were officially conducted on a non-party basis, political affiliations played a decisive role. The BJP had issued an official panel of candidates before the elections, and an overwhelming majority of those candidates emerged victorious.<\/p>\n

According to the results, BJP-backed candidates won from Nagwain, Syog, Kataula, Thachi, Lower Karsog, Sarahan, Dehar, Kot Balh, Behal, Kot Gopalpur, Sadhana, Kotli, Sari, Nvahi, Sohar, Batheri, Khilra, Majhothi, Basa, Rod, Baryogi, Churag, Nergharwasada, Savi and Naun wards.<\/p>\n

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPIM]-supported candidates registered victories from Bhadyada and Kufri wards, while Congress-backed candidates managed to win only five seats in Salapar, Lower Rewalsar, Thauna, Tihra and Mahadev wards. The remaining four seats were won by independent candidates.<\/p>\n

High-Profile Defeats Rock Congress and BJP<\/h4>\n

One of the most significant upsets of the election was the defeat of Champa Thakur, District Congress President and daughter of former minister Kaul Singh Thakur. Contesting from her ward as a Congress-supported candidate, Champa suffered a decisive defeat at the hands of BJP-backed candidate Hem Lata.<\/p>\n

Hem Lata secured 8,659 votes against Champa Thakur’s 6,195 votes, winning by a margin of 2,464 votes. The result is being viewed as a major embarrassment for the Congress leadership in Mandi district, particularly because Champa Thakur has been one of the party’s prominent faces in the region.<\/p>\n

The BJP too witnessed a notable setback in Tihra ward, where sitting Zila Parishad member Vandana Guleria, daughter of former minister and senior BJP leader Mahender Singh Thakur, lost a closely contested election to Congress-supported candidate Anita Kumari.<\/p>\n

Anita Kumari polled 6,384 votes, edging past Vandana Guleria, who secured 6,339 votes. The narrow margin of just 45 votes made it one of the closest contests in the district.<\/p>\n

Another Electoral Blow for Congress in Mandi<\/h4>\n

Political observers believe the Zila Parishad results reinforce the BJP’s continued electoral dominance in Mandi district and underline the Congress party’s organizational weaknesses in the region.<\/p>\n

The latest setback comes shortly after Congress suffered a crushing defeat in the Mandi Municipal Corporation elections. Despite extensive campaigning by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh, the Congress managed to win only one seat out of the 14 wards where polling was held. Elections in Behna ward were postponed after local residents boycotted the polling process.<\/p>\n

The poor performance in the municipal elections had already raised questions about the Congress party’s grassroots support in Mandi. The Zila Parishad results have further deepened those concerns.<\/p>\n

BJP’s Continued Dominance<\/h4>\n

The BJP’s strong performance also mirrors the political trend witnessed during the last Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections in Mandi district. Out of the district’s 10 Assembly constituencies, the BJP won nine seats, while Congress could secure only one.<\/p>\n

The latest Zila Parishad verdict is therefore being viewed as a continuation of the BJP’s electoral supremacy in Mandi and a warning signal for the Congress leadership ahead of future political battles.<\/p>\n

With victories stretching across almost every subdivision of the district, the BJP has strengthened its grip over local self-governance institutions and demonstrated its organizational strength at the grassroots level.<\/p>\n

Political analysts believe that unless Congress undertakes serious organizational restructuring and reconnects with voters at the village level, reversing the BJP’s dominance in Mandi district will remain a formidable challenge.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
