The Indian Institute of Technology Mandi successfully inaugurated the 3rd International Mind, Brain and Consciousness Conference (MBCC 2026), held from June 3 to 6 at its Kamand campus in Himachal Pradesh. Organized by the Indian Knowledge Systems and Mental Health Applications (IKSMHA) Centre under the patronage of the Indian Knowledge Systems Division, the four-day conference emerged as a landmark global platform for interdisciplinary dialogue on consciousness, cognition, mental health, wellbeing, and human flourishing.<\/p>\n

Bringing together more than 500 participants from India and across the world, MBCC 2026 witnessed the convergence of researchers, neuroscientists, healthcare professionals, psychologists, educators, policymakers, spiritual practitioners, and students. The conference showcased a remarkable blend of modern scientific inquiry and India’s rich intellectual traditions through over 290 technical presentations, 100 research posters, 18 keynote lectures, 7 invited talks, 3 panel discussions, 2 workshops, 4 competitions, and several interactive sessions.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The discussions covered a wide spectrum of disciplines, including consciousness studies, neuroscience, cognitive science, psychology, yoga, meditation, Ayurveda, Sanskrit studies, artificial intelligence, mental health, and Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS), creating a unique environment for cross-disciplinary exploration.<\/p>\n

Distinguished Inaugural Ceremony<\/h4>\n

The inaugural ceremony was graced by renowned Bharatanatyam exponent, scholar, choreographer, and researcher Padma Subrahmanyam as the Chief Guest. She captivated the audience with a special Bharatanatyam performance presented alongside her ensemble, highlighting the deep connection between art, culture, and consciousness.<\/p>\n

The event also witnessed the presence of Ganti S. Murthy, National Coordinator of the Indian Knowledge Systems Division, Ministry of Education, Government of India, and Chief Patron of the conference. He lauded IIT Mandi for establishing one of the country’s largest centres dedicated to Indian Knowledge Systems and for its pioneering work in consciousness research.<\/p>\n

A special attraction of the conference was the participation of Ajoy Chakrabarty, one of India’s most celebrated Hindustani classical vocalists, who delivered a keynote address and presented a classical music concert that enriched the cultural dimension of the event.<\/p>\n
