In a significant step towards protecting vulnerable communities from recurring flood threats, an ambitious flood control project worth nearly Rs. 8 crore has been initiated in Karpat village of the Mayar Valley in Lahaul-Spiti district. The project aims to safeguard the village, agricultural land, and standing crops from the devastating impact of floods that have troubled the area for several years.<\/p>\n

Karpat village has been facing repeated flood-related challenges, with local residents and farmers suffering substantial losses to their fields and crops almost every year. The continuous threat of flooding has also placed the entire village at risk, raising concerns among residents and local authorities alike.<\/p>\n

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, efforts were made to formulate a long-term solution. Directions were issued to the Jal Shakti Department to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for flood control measures in the area. Following the preparation of the DPR, financial approval amounting to approximately Rs. 8 crore was secured for the project.<\/p>\n

According to Lahaul-Spiti MLA Anuradha Rana, the project was sanctioned with the support and blessings of the Chief Minister. She stated that the work has now commenced and is progressing steadily on the ground. The primary objective of the project is to strengthen flood protection infrastructure before the arrival of the monsoon season, thereby minimizing the risk of damage to life, property, and agricultural land.<\/p>\n

The ongoing construction work is expected to provide long-term relief to villagers who have lived under the constant threat of floods for years. Authorities are hopeful that the flood control measures will prove effective in preventing erosion, protecting farmland, and ensuring the safety of the village during periods of heavy rainfall and flash floods.<\/p>\n

Expressing gratitude for the initiative, MLA Anuradha Rana thanked the Chief Minister for approving the project and extending support for the welfare of the region. She also appreciated the efforts of Executive Engineer Ajay Gupta and the entire team of the Jal Shakti Department for preparing the DPR within the stipulated timeframe and ensuring the timely implementation of the project.<\/p>\n
