Six States Reach Consensus on Long-Pending Kishau Multipurpose Dam Project; MoU to Be Signed Soon.<\/h1>\n

In a significant development for the rejuvenation of the Yamuna River and strengthening water security in northern India, a consensus was reached among six states on the long-pending Kishau Multipurpose Dam Project during a high-level meeting chaired by Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah in New Delhi on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The meeting resulted in an agreement among the governments of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the implementation of the Kishau Multipurpose Project. Following the signing of the MoU, the project will be placed before the Union Cabinet for approval.<\/p>\n

The breakthrough is being seen as a major achievement in resolving a long-standing inter-state issue through dialogue and cooperation. The Centre said the development reflects the government’s commitment to finding solutions to important national issues through consensus-building.<\/p>\n

Addressing the meeting, Amit Shah emphasized that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central Government has been actively pursuing the principle of “Solutions Through Dialogue” to resolve significant matters of national and public interest that had remained pending for years.<\/p>\n

The meeting was attended by Union Minister of Power Manohar Lal, Union Minister of Jal Shakti C. R. Patil, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. Senior officials present included the Union Home Secretary, the Union Water Resources Secretary, the Secretary of the Ministry of Power, the Chief Secretaries of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Jal Shakti.<\/p>\n

A major decision taken during the meeting was regarding the financing of the project. It was agreed that 90 per cent of the cost of the water component of the Kishau Multipurpose Dam Project will be borne by the Central Government as Central Assistance. The remaining 10 per cent of the cost will be shared by the six participating states\u2014Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan.<\/p>\n

Another important consensus emerged on the issue of water allocation and power-sharing. The participating states agreed that Himachal Pradesh’s share of water from the project would be allocated to Delhi and Rajasthan. In return, Delhi and Rajasthan will share the cost of Himachal Pradesh’s portion of the power component of the project. Officials described the arrangement as a mutually beneficial solution that addresses the interests of all stakeholders while ensuring the project’s viability.<\/p>\n

The Kishau Multipurpose Project, proposed on the Yamuna River, is expected to play a crucial role in improving water availability, generating hydroelectric power and ensuring better management of water resources in the region. The project is also expected to contribute significantly to the rejuvenation of the Yamuna by ensuring a greater flow of clean water in the river.<\/p>\n

Government officials stated that the decision would prove to be a landmark milestone in ongoing efforts to restore the ecological health of the Yamuna, which has long suffered from pollution and reduced water flow. Increased availability of clean water is expected to benefit millions of people across the participating states.<\/p>\n

With consensus finally achieved after years of discussions and negotiations, the signing of the MoU is expected to pave the way for the project’s early implementation. Once approved by the Union Cabinet, the Kishau Multipurpose Dam Project is expected to emerge as one of the most significant water-resource and river-rejuvenation initiatives in northern India, benefiting multiple states through improved water supply, hydropower generation and environmental sustainability.This version follows a complete newspaper-style format and includes all participating states and the key dignitaries present at the meeting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
