In a major development in the alleged embezzlement of donations received at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, police have arrested all eight individuals named in a First Information Report (FIR) following recommendations made by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the Uttar Pradesh government.<\/p>\n

Senior police officials confirmed on Friday that all the accused were arrested late Thursday night from Ayodhya and are currently being questioned. They are expected to be produced before a magistrate after the completion of preliminary interrogation.<\/p>\n

The FIR was lodged on the complaint of Krishna Mohan, a member of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, based on findings in the SIT’s preliminary report submitted to the Uttar Pradesh government earlier this week.<\/p>\n

The eight accused have been identified as Avinash Shukla, Anukalp Mishra, Lavkush Mishra, Manish Kumar Yadav, Karunesh Pandey, Ramashankar Mishra, Subhash Srivastava and Ramshankar Yadav alias Tinnu. According to investigators, they were associated with counting cash and valuables donated by devotees at the Ram Temple in various capacities.<\/p>\n

Police have registered the case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including theft by clerk or servant, criminal breach of trust, dishonestly receiving stolen property, and criminal conspiracy, among other relevant provisions.<\/p>\n

The controversy first surfaced on June 7 after allegations of financial irregularities in the handling of temple donations gained public attention. Responding to the seriousness of the matter, the Uttar Pradesh government constituted a three-member SIT on June 13 at the request of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. The panel, headed by Lucknow Divisional Commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant, submitted its preliminary findings on June 23, following which an FIR was registered on June 25.<\/p>\n

Among those arrested, Subhash Srivastava was reportedly responsible for supervising the cash-counting staff, while the remaining accused allegedly participated in counting cash and valuables. Ramshankar Yadav alias Tinnu, identified as a former driver of the Trust’s General Secretary Champat Rai, has denied the allegations, claiming he was never involved in the counting process and blaming “jealous people” for implicating him.<\/p>\n

The issue has also sparked political controversy, with Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), and the Aam Aadmi Party demanding a thorough investigation and criminal action.<\/p>\n

While the Uttar Pradesh government has maintained that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is treating the matter with utmost seriousness and that anyone found guilty will face strict legal action, opposition leaders have termed the FIR an “eyewash,” alleging that it does not fix accountability on senior Trust functionaries, including General Secretary Champat Rai and trustee Anil Mishra.<\/p>\n

The investigation remains ongoing, with officials indicating that further action may follow based on the findings of the SIT and the ongoing police probe.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
