India Launches First \u2018Easy Connect\u2019 International Flight from Varanasi Under Hub-and-Spoke Model.<\/h1>\n

In a landmark step towards strengthening India’s aviation network and enhancing international air connectivity, Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu on today inaugurated the country’s first ‘Easy Connect’ international flight under the Hub-and-Spoke model from Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport, Varanasi. The initiative is aimed at enabling passengers from Tier-II and Tier-III cities to access seamless international travel through Indian hub airports.<\/p>\n

The launch marks a significant milestone in the Government of India’s vision of transforming the country into a global aviation hub while making international air travel more accessible, efficient and passenger-friendly.<\/p>\n

A New Era in International Connectivity<\/h4>\n

The newly introduced Hub-and-Spoke model allows international passengers to complete all essential departure formalities\u2014including check-in, immigration and customs clearance\u2014at their originating airport itself. This eliminates the need to repeat these procedures at major hub airports before boarding international flights.<\/p>\n

For example, passengers beginning their journey from Varanasi will complete immigration and customs procedures at Varanasi before boarding a domestic flight to a designated hub such as Delhi. From there, they can seamlessly connect to their international destination without undergoing fresh departure formalities.<\/p>\n

The initiative is expected to significantly reduce transit hassles, improve passenger convenience and enhance the overall travel experience.<\/p>\n

Vision for India as a Global Aviation Hub<\/h4>\n

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said the launch represents a major step towards realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making air travel more accessible while building a world-class aviation ecosystem.<\/p>\n

“Today we take a major step forward towards realising our vision of making air travel more accessible and building a future-ready, self-reliant Indian aviation industry that is efficient, inclusive and globally competitive,” the Minister said.<\/p>\n

Highlighting the broader significance of the programme, he added: “Our new Hub-and-Spoke model paves the way for a monumental shift in how our citizens travel. Regardless of the city one lives in India, one can begin their international journey from their home city and travel across the globe with ease and confidence, on India’s own wings.”<\/p>\n

To commemorate the launch, the Minister presented special boarding passes to the first passengers travelling on the inaugural Easy Connect flight.<\/p>\n

Expansion to More Cities Planned<\/h4>\n

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has announced plans to expand the Hub-and-Spoke model to several other Tier-II and Tier-III city airports across the country. The initiative aims to decentralize international air travel, allowing passengers from smaller cities to enjoy direct access to global destinations through Indian aviation hubs instead of relying on foreign transit airports.<\/p>\n

The strategy aligns with the Government’s long-term objective of making India the preferred aviation hub for Indian travellers by 2030 and an internationally recognized aviation hub by 2047.<\/p>\n

Economic Impact<\/h4>\n

According to studies conducted by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the development of India’s aviation hub ecosystem is expected to generate substantial economic benefits.<\/p>\n

By 2030, the initiative could:<\/p>\n

Generate nearly 400,000 direct and indirect jobs.<\/p>\n

Contribute an additional USD 30 billion to India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).<\/p>\n

By 2047, the cumulative impact is projected to:<\/p>\n

Support around 16 million direct and indirect jobs.<\/p>\n

Add approximately USD 1.4 trillion to the Indian economy.<\/p>\n

Apart from aviation, improved international connectivity is expected to boost tourism, trade, exports, investment and regional economic development.<\/p>\n

Robust Security Framework<\/h4>\n

The Ministry has incorporated several safeguards to maintain operational efficiency and security under the Hub-and-Spoke model.<\/p>\n

Key measures include:<\/p>\n

Both domestic and international segments of the journey are treated as international operations.<\/p>\n

Separate boarding passes are issued for domestic and international passengers, clearly marked with identifiers to prevent passenger intermixing.<\/p>\n

International passengers travelling under the Easy Connect framework are not permitted access to customs declaration facilities at hub airports, ensuring compliance with security protocols.<\/p>\n
