The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has consolidated its dominance in the Mandi Municipal Corporation by securing the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor for the third consecutive term following its emphatic victory in the recently concluded municipal elections.<\/p>\n

After winning 12 out of the 14 wards, the BJP unanimously elected Suman Thakur as the Mayor and Jitender Sharma as the Deputy Mayor during the election process held at the Municipal Corporation Hall in Mandi on Monday.<\/p>\n

The election proceedings were conducted peacefully under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner and Authorized Officer Apoorv Devgan, who also administered the oath of office and secrecy to all 14 newly elected councillors before the mayoral election.<\/p>\n

Suman Thakur Becomes Third Mayor of Mandi Municipal Corporation<\/h4>\n

A seasoned BJP leader and former President of the Mandi Municipal Council, Suman Thakur has been elected Mayor after winning her fifth consecutive term as councillor from Ward No. 9 (Palace-II). Known for her active political presence and organizational experience, Thakur becomes the third Mayor of the Mandi Municipal Corporation.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile Jitender Sharma, who secured his second consecutive victory as councillor from Ward No. 11 (Samkhetar), was elected Deputy Mayor.<\/p>\n

Both leaders were declared elected unopposed, as no other nominations were filed for either post.<\/p>\n

Month-Long Speculation Ends<\/h4>\n

The announcement brought an end to nearly a month of political speculation over the BJP’s choice for the Mayor’s post. Several names had been under discussion, including former Municipal Council Vice-President Gagan Kashyap from Ward No. 12, councillor Neha from Ward No. 4, and Jitender Sharma himself.<\/p>\n

To finalize the party’s decision, BJP had appointed Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Sikander Kumar and State Vice President Payal Vaidya as observers to consult party councillors, leaders and workers. The opinions of former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur and local MLA Anil Sharma were also considered significant during the selection process.<\/p>\n

Following extensive consultations, the party reached a consensus on Suman Thakur for Mayor and Jitender Sharma for Deputy Mayor.<\/p>\n

Oath Ceremony and Election Process<\/h4>\n

Before the election, Deputy Commissioner Apoorv Devgan administered the oath of office and secrecy to all 14 newly elected councillors. As only one nomination was received for each of the two posts, Devgan officially declared Suman Thakur and Jitender Sharma elected unopposed as Mayor and Deputy Mayor, respectively.<\/p>\n

The meeting was conducted by Municipal Commissioner Rohit Rathour.<\/p>\n

Among those present on the occasion were MLA Anil Sharma (Mandi Sadar), MLA Inder Singh Gandhi (Balh), MLA Puran Chand Thakur (Drang), Additional Deputy Commissioner Gursimar Singh, Assistant Commissioner Vijay Kumar, along with officials and employees of the Municipal Corporation.<\/p>\n

Congratulations and Development Agenda<\/h4>\n

Congratulating the newly elected Mayor, Deputy Mayor and councillors, Deputy Commissioner Apoorv Devgan expressed confidence that the Municipal Corporation would prioritize public welfare, transparency and inclusive urban development, while playing a vital role in the overall growth of Mandi city.<\/p>\n

MLA Anil Sharma highlighted that the BJP’s decisive victory in 12 of the 14 wards reflected the confidence reposed by the people in the party. He said that after consultations with party leaders and former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, Suman Thakur and Jitender Sharma were unanimously entrusted with the responsibilities of Mayor and Deputy Mayor.<\/p>\n

He assured full cooperation from the state government and local representatives to ensure the planned development of the Municipal Corporation.<\/p>\n

Newly Elected Leaders Thank Party<\/h4>\n

Expressing gratitude to the party leadership for reposing faith in them, Mayor Suman Thakur and Deputy Mayor Jitender Sharma pledged to work collectively with all councillors and stakeholders for the comprehensive development of Mandi.
