CM Directs Initiation of Process to Take Over Sunni, Luhri and Dhaulasidh Hydroelectric Projects.<\/h1>\n

Sukhu asks officials to safeguard Himachal\u2019s hydropower interests; orders renegotiation of Duggar project terms.<\/h2>\n

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Thursday directed the Power Department to initiate the process for taking over the 382 MW Sunni, 210 MW Luhri Stage-I and 66 MW Dhaulasidh hydroelectric projects, which were earlier allotted to Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (SJVNL).<\/p>\n

Chairing a high-level meeting of the Power Department, the Chief Minister said that hydropower is the backbone of Himachal Pradesh\u2019s economy and emphasized that the state government is committed to ensuring that the benefits of the state’s rich hydropower resources reach its people.<\/p>\n

He said the present state government remains firmly committed to protecting the interests of Himachal Pradesh across all platforms and forums. The government, he added, is taking all necessary steps to secure the state’s rightful share from its natural resources and ensure their optimum utilisation for public welfare.<\/p>\n

Sukhu also directed officials to renegotiate the terms and conditions of the 500 MW Duggar Hydroelectric Project, which is being developed by NHPC, following the company’s proposal to increase the height of the dam. He said the revised project parameters warranted a fresh assessment to ensure that Himachal Pradesh receives benefits commensurate with the enhanced scope of the project.<\/p>\n

The Chief Minister asserted that the government would safeguard the state’s interests while ensuring fair compensation and greater returns from hydropower projects developed within its territory.<\/p>\n

Highlighting another major achievement, Sukhu said the state government had successfully resolved the eight-year-long deadlock over the 422 MW Kishau Dam Project. He said that under the revised arrangement, Himachal Pradesh would not be required to make any capital investment while securing 211 MW of free power from the project.<\/p>\n

According to the Chief Minister, the revised agreement is expected to generate nearly Rs. 600 crore in annual revenue for the state, significantly strengthening its financial position while ensuring greater benefits from its natural resources.<\/p>\n

He reiterated that the government is committed to maximising the state’s interests in the power sector through policy reforms, strategic negotiations and effective utilisation of hydropower resources to accelerate economic development and improve public welfare.<\/p>\n
