The United Kingdom and France have announced a joint initiative to strengthen maritime security and safeguard freedom of navigation in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, reaffirming their commitment to regional stability and international law amid ongoing concerns over maritime security in the Gulf.<\/p>\n

In a joint statement issued on July 3, 2026, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron described the Strait of Hormuz as a “vital artery for the global economy,” stressing that ensuring the safe passage of commercial shipping through the waterway is a matter of international importance.<\/p>\n

The two leaders welcomed the decision of the Sultanate of Oman to work closely with the United Kingdom and France to ensure safe navigation within Oman’s sovereign territorial waters, which border the Strait of Hormuz.
