India, Rwanda Expand Defence Cooperation at 2nd Joint Defence Cooperation Committee Meeting in New Delhi.<\/h1>\n

India and Rwanda have agreed to significantly expand their bilateral defence partnership following the successful conclusion of the Second Joint Defence Cooperation Committee (JDCC) meeting held in New Delhi on July 6\u20137, 2026. The meeting marked another important milestone in the growing strategic relationship between the two countries, with both sides adopting a roadmap to deepen cooperation across multiple defence sectors.<\/p>\n

The two-day meeting resulted in a consensus to strengthen collaboration in military training, joint military exercises, military medical cooperation, and defence industrial partnerships. Both countries also finalized an implementation plan with defined timelines to ensure the effective execution of decisions taken during the meeting.<\/p>\n

The JDCC meeting was co-chaired by Amitabh Prasad, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Defence, Government of India, and Brigadier General Louis Kanobayier, Chief for Joint Force Development, Training and Doctrine (Chief J7) at the Rwanda Defence Force Headquarters.<\/p>\n

The Indian delegation included senior representatives from the Department of Defence, Department of Defence Production, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Ministry of External Affairs, Armed Forces Medical Services, Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff, and the three Services. The discussions focused on enhancing institutional cooperation and identifying new opportunities for long-term defence engagement.<\/p>\n

On the sidelines of the JDCC meeting, the Rwandan delegation called on Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, where discussions were held on emerging areas of bilateral defence cooperation aimed at further strengthening the existing partnership between the two nations.<\/p>\n

The delegation also interacted with representatives of the Indian defence industry and received detailed briefings on India’s expanding defence manufacturing ecosystem, indigenous technologies, and advancements in defence innovation. Both countries identified several potential areas for industrial collaboration and agreed to accelerate cooperation in the defence manufacturing sector.<\/p>\n

As part of the visit, the Rwandan delegation toured the Army Hospital (Referral & Research) in New Delhi. During the visit, members of the delegation were introduced to India’s military medical capabilities, advanced healthcare infrastructure, and the comprehensive medical support system available to the country’s armed forces.<\/p>\n

India and Rwanda signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Defence Cooperation in July 2018 during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Rwanda. Since then, defence ties between the two countries have steadily expanded through institutional dialogue and practical cooperation.<\/p>\n

The successful conclusion of the second JDCC meeting underscores the shared commitment of India and Rwanda to deepen defence relations, enhance institutional collaboration, strengthen defence industrial cooperation, and promote long-term strategic partnership between the two countries.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
