Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday felicitated the nine women officers of the Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force who successfully completed the first-ever Tri-services all-women circumnavigation sailing expedition, ‘Samudra Pradakshina’, onboard the Indian Army Sailing Vessel (IASV) Triveni. The officers were honoured during an interaction in New Delhi after returning from the landmark 314-day voyage that covered nearly 25,500 nautical miles across four oceans.<\/p>\n

Congratulating the team on their extraordinary achievement, Rajnath Singh described the expedition as a powerful symbol of ‘Nari Shakti’ and an outstanding example of Tri-service jointness and synergy. He said the mission would inspire every Indian by demonstrating how courage, discipline and determination can overcome the toughest challenges.<\/p>\n

During the interaction, the women officers shared their experiences from the demanding journey, describing it as physically and mentally challenging but immensely rewarding. They said their commitment to representing the nation with pride remained their greatest source of motivation throughout the voyage, helping them overcome difficult weather conditions, long periods at sea and other operational challenges.<\/p>\n

Addressing the officers, the Defence Minister said their dedication had inspired him personally and reaffirmed his belief that determination and conviction can help achieve any goal. He praised the team’s capability, confidence and leadership, stating that the successful completion of the expedition had shattered stereotypes suggesting that women are not suited for demanding military missions.<\/p>\n

“You have proved that physical capability, mental toughness and leadership qualities are not determined by gender. Every daughter in India can now look at your achievement and believe that she too can cross oceans and conquer the world,” Rajnath Singh said.<\/p>\n

Highlighting the significance of the mission, he described it as a shining example of India’s growing emphasis on Tri-service integration. Officers from all three armed forces sailed together on a single vessel under one flag, showcasing seamless coordination and shared commitment to a national mission. According to the Defence Minister, the expedition demonstrated that no challenge is too great when the armed forces work together with unity and purpose.<\/p>\n

Rajnath Singh also commended the crew for showcasing India’s indigenous capabilities, engineering excellence and technological progress during port calls across several countries. He said the mission conveyed a strong message to the international community that India is capable of excelling in every field, including maritime adventure and military professionalism.<\/p>\n

The event was attended by Chief of the Army Staff General Dhiraj Seth, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, Vice Chief of the Air Staff Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit, Vice Chief of the Naval Staff Vice Admiral Ajay Kochhar and senior officers from the three Services.<\/p>\n

The IASV Triveni crew had been virtually flagged in by the Defence Minister on July 22 after completing the voyage in Mumbai. The expedition had originally been flagged off on September 11, 2025.<\/p>\n

The success of Samudra Pradakshina was the result of nearly two years of intensive preparation, meticulous planning and round-the-clock support from multiple military organisations and technical teams. During the mission, the crew fulfilled all internationally recognised requirements for a global circumnavigation by crossing all meridians of longitude, crossing the Equator twice, crossing the International Date Line and rounding the Three Great Capes\u2014Cape Leeuwin, Cape Horn and the Cape of Good Hope.<\/p>\n

One of the expedition’s most significant accomplishments was successfully navigating the treacherous Drake Passage and rounding Cape Horn, earning the crew membership in the prestigious fraternity of Cape Horners, a distinction reserved for sailors who conquer one of the world’s most challenging maritime routes.<\/p>\n

Beyond its maritime accomplishments, the expedition also served as a significant exercise in military diplomacy. During port visits around the world, IASV Triveni promoted India’s rich cultural heritage, maritime traditions, military professionalism and enduring values while strengthening goodwill and defence ties with friendly nations, marking another milestone in the country’s growing global maritime presence.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
