Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said the decision aims to attract and retain specialist doctors in government healthcare institutions, particularly in remote areas of the state.

Under the new decision, the monthly salary of Contract and Job Trainee Medical Officers (Specialists) has been increased from Rs. 33,660 to Rs. 60,000, marking a direct hike of Rs. 26,340.

The Chief Minister said the decision reflects the government’s commitment to improving healthcare services and ensuring the availability of specialist doctors in government hospitals across Himachal Pradesh.

Earlier, in 2022, following the implementation of the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission, the monthly salary of Job Trainee Medical Officers (Specialists) had been increased from around Rs. 27,000 to Rs. 33,660, an increase of nearly 24 per cent. The latest decision represents a further 78 per cent increase, providing a significant financial boost to specialist doctors serving under the scheme.

The government believes the enhanced salary package will encourage more specialist doctors to serve in government health institutions and improve access to quality healthcare in rural and remote regions.

The Chief Minister said the state government has been consistently taking concrete measures to modernise the healthcare sector and strengthen medical infrastructure so that people can receive advanced treatment closer to their homes, reducing the need to travel outside the state for specialised healthcare.

Highlighting previous reforms, he said the government had already increased the monthly stipends of postgraduate medical students studying in government medical colleges. The stipend for first-year postgraduate students was raised from Rs. 40,000 to Rs. 50,000, second-year students from Rs. 45,000 to Rs. 60,000, and third-year students from Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 65,000.

The government recognised the crucial role played by postgraduate medical students in patient care alongside their academic responsibilities and enhanced their stipends to motivate them to provide better healthcare services.

The state government had also revised the stipends of Senior Residents and specialist doctors working in government medical colleges. The monthly stipend of Senior Residents and Tutor Specialists was increased from Rs. 60,000–Rs. 65,000 to Rs. 1 lakh, while Super Specialists and Senior Residents (Super Specialists) now receive Rs. 1.30 lakh per month, reflecting an increase ranging from 50 per cent to 170 per cent.

The Chief Minister reiterated that healthcare and education remain among the highest priorities of the state government. He said that over the past three and a half years, several landmark decisions have been taken to bring comprehensive reforms in both sectors.

He expressed confidence that the latest salary revision for Contract and Job Trainee Medical Officers (Specialists) would further strengthen healthcare services and improve the availability of quality medical care across the state.

The Chief Minister added that while the government is expanding modern technology and advanced medical facilities in healthcare institutions, it is also taking effective steps to address the shortage of doctors and other healthcare personnel, ensuring better healthcare services for people across Himachal Pradesh.

Himachal Govt Approves 78% Salary Hike for Job Trainee Medical Officers (Specialists), Monthly Pay Raised to Rs. 60,000.
