The General House meeting of the Municipal Corporation Mandi was held today under the chairpersonship of Mayor Suman Thakur, where detailed discussions were conducted on various administrative, financial and developmental issues concerning the city. Several important resolutions aimed at strengthening civic services, improving governance and ensuring the overall development of Mandi were discussed and approved.<\/p>\n

The meeting began with the constitution of statutory standing committees of the Municipal Corporation as per the provisions of Section 40 of the Himachal Pradesh Municipal Corporation Act, 1994.<\/p>\n

The General Functions Committee will be headed by Mayor Suman Thakur. Its members include Krishna Thakur, Rita Devi and Virender Singh. The committee will look after matters related to general administration, coordination among various departments, efficient functioning of civic services and review of routine municipal affairs.<\/p>\n

The Finance, Contracts and Planning Committee will also be chaired by Mayor Suman Thakur. The members of the committee are Gagan, Sarita Handa, Nirmal Verma and Neha Kumari. The committee will oversee issues related to the municipal budget, financial management, revenue enhancement, development planning, contracts and monitoring of developmental projects.<\/p>\n

The Social Justice Committee will be headed by Deputy Mayor Jitendra Sharma. The committee members include Alaknanda Handa, Narvada Devi, Gurdeep Kaur and Jitendra Kumar. The committee will focus on welfare and social justice-related matters concerning women, children, senior citizens, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable sections of society.<\/p>\n

It was decided that all statutory committees would discharge their responsibilities effectively in accordance with the provisions of the Act. The Municipal Corporation administration will provide necessary administrative, technical and secretarial support to ensure smooth functioning of these committees.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, a decision was also taken to initiate the process of conducting regular Ward Sabhas and formation of Ward Committees in all municipal wards as per legal provisions. Ward-level development plans will be prepared based on local requirements, with priority given to roads, footpaths, drinking water supply, sewerage, drainage systems, sanitation, solid waste management, street lighting, parking facilities, parks, public amenities, environmental protection and beautification works.<\/p>\n

To achieve the goal of a clean and healthy city, the Municipal Corporation decided to strengthen ward-level sanitation and solid waste management systems. Active participation of women\u2019s groups, youth clubs, voluntary organizations, resident welfare associations, educational institutions and other social organizations will be ensured in this initiative.<\/p>\n

The meeting also approved the proposal to launch the \u201cMunicipal Corporation Mandi Drug-Free Campaign\u201d. Under this campaign, awareness programmes and drug prevention activities will be organized in every ward. The campaign will be implemented with the cooperation of the Police Department, Health Department, District Administration, educational institutions, sports organizations and social bodies.<\/p>\n

For promoting economic empowerment among youth and women, the corporation decided to conduct Livelihood and Skill Mapping of unemployed youth and women in every ward. The initiative aims to connect them with government schemes, skill development programmes and self-employment opportunities.<\/p>\n

A proposal was also placed to prepare a 100-day action plan for the Municipal Corporation, focusing on sanitation, solid waste management, drinking water, sewerage, roads, street lights, parking, revenue generation, public grievance redressal, environmental protection and improvement of civic facilities.<\/p>\n

The House further decided to prepare a comprehensive status report on the current financial position of the Municipal Corporation, available funds, pending liabilities, revenue collection, ongoing and approved development projects, sanitation arrangements, water supply, sewerage, roads, street lighting, parking, municipal properties, human resources and other administrative matters.<\/p>\n

To strengthen public participation, the proposal for organizing the \u201cMunicipal Corporation Mandi Jan Samvad Programme\u201d regularly was discussed. The initiative will provide citizens with a direct platform to present their grievances, suggestions and expectations before the municipal administration.<\/p>\n

The meeting also emphasized improving the financial self-reliance of the Municipal Corporation. A review of property tax collection, parking revenue, advertisement charges, municipal properties, user charges and other legally permissible revenue sources will be undertaken to prepare a revenue enhancement and financial stability plan.<\/p>\n

For transparent monitoring of development works, the corporation decided to establish an effective tracking mechanism covering project cost, executing agency, start and completion dates, physical and financial progress, and current status of each project.<\/p>\n

The House also decided to begin the process of preparing \u201cVision Mandi-2035\u201d, a long-term urban development roadmap that will include areas such as urban planning, heritage conservation, environmental protection, cleanliness, traffic management, parking, tourism promotion, public facilities, employment generation and improvement in the quality of life of citizens.<\/p>\n

Concluding the meeting, Mayor Suman Thakur called upon all councillors and officials to work with coordination, transparency and public participation. She stressed collective efforts to transform Municipal Corporation Mandi into a cleaner, more beautiful, well-planned and citizen-friendly city.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
