Lahaul-Spiti MLA Anuradha Rana on Wednesday formally assumed charge as the Chairperson of the Tribal\/Scheduled Tribe Department of the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee at Rajiv Bhawan, Shimla. With her appointment, Rana has become the first woman to head the Himachal Pradesh Tribal Congress.<\/p>\n

The programme was attended by Dr. Vikrant Bhuria, President of the All India Tribal Congress, as the chief guest. He congratulated Anuradha Rana on assuming the new responsibility and expressed confidence that her leadership would further strengthen the organisation and give greater momentum to issues concerning tribal communities in the state.<\/p>\n

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Bhuria said the Congress has remained committed to protecting the rights and interests of tribal communities and would continue to work for their social and economic development. He emphasised that the development of tribal areas would remain a priority for the party.<\/p>\n

Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi also congratulated Rana on her appointment and called upon Congress workers and office-bearers to work together in a coordinated and united manner to strengthen the organisation at the grassroots level.<\/p>\n

Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee President Vinay Kumar said that Rana had been entrusted with an important organisational responsibility and expressed confidence that her leadership would provide new strength and direction to the Tribal Congress in Himachal Pradesh.<\/p>\n

After assuming charge, Anuradha Rana expressed her gratitude to the central and state Congress leadership as well as the state government for entrusting her with the responsibility. She said she would discharge her duties with complete dedication, sincerity and commitment.<\/p>\n

Rana said that issues concerning the development and welfare of tribal areas would receive special attention under her leadership. She specifically highlighted the restoration of Nautor rights, implementation of the Forest Rights Act, and other important public-interest issues affecting tribal communities.<\/p>\n

She said that she would make every possible effort to raise these issues at the appropriate forums and work towards finding solutions in the larger interest of the people living in tribal areas.<\/p>\n

The programme was attended by Dehra MLA Kamlesh Thakur, Himachal Pradesh State Commission for Women Chairperson Vidya Negi, Lahaul-Spiti District Congress President Dorje Larje, Mahila Congress President Kamla Thakur, block presidents Sartolo, Anil Thakur and Surender Thakur, along with senior Congress leaders and office-bearers from Lahaul and Spiti.<\/p>\n

A large number of Congress workers, office-bearers of the Tribal Congress and party functionaries were also present on the occasion.<\/p>\n

The appointment of Anuradha Rana is being seen as significant for the representation of tribal communities within the state Congress organisation, particularly as she becomes the first woman president of the Himachal Pradesh Tribal Congress. Her new role is expected to bring greater focus to development, rights and welfare-related issues affecting the tribal population of Himachal Pradesh.<\/p>\n
