One-Day Workshop on GI Awareness and Natural Dyes Held at Bhuttico in Kullu.<\/h1>\n

Handloom weavers and ITI students learn about Geographical Indication, natural dyeing techniques and government schemes.<\/h2>\n

A one-day workshop on Geographical Indication (GI) awareness and the use and application of natural dyes was organised at the Bhuttico auditorium in Kullu district by the National Handloom Development Corporation under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.<\/p>\n

The workshop focused on creating awareness among handloom weavers, entrepreneurs and students about the importance of GI certification, traditional handloom products and the use of natural colours as a sustainable alternative in textile production.<\/p>\n

Bhuttico Chairman and former Horticulture Minister Thakur Satya Prakash attended the programme as the chief guest. Deputy Director and in-charge of the Weavers\u2019 Service Centre, Kullu, Anil Sahu, Assistant Director Vinay Kumar, and Praveen Lata, Manager, District Industries Centre, Kullu, participated as special guests.<\/p>\n

Information on government schemes for handloom sector<\/h4>\n

During the workshop, officials from the Central and state governments briefed handloom weavers, entrepreneurs and trainees of the Industrial Training Institute about various schemes and initiatives being implemented for the development and welfare of handloom weavers.<\/p>\n

The officials highlighted opportunities available under government programmes aimed at strengthening the handloom sector, enhancing skills, encouraging innovation and improving livelihood opportunities for traditional weavers.<\/p>\n

Kullu Shawl GI recognition highlighted<\/h4>\n

Addressing the gathering, chief guest Thakur Satya Prakash expressed gratitude to the National Handloom Development Corporation and the Development Commissioner (Handlooms) for organising the workshop.<\/p>\n

He said such programmes would provide new energy and opportunities to handloom weavers and help strengthen traditional weaving practices.<\/p>\n

Referring to the Geographical Indication certification received by Kullu Shawl, Satya Prakash said Kullu Shawl has the distinction of being the first product from Himachal Pradesh to receive GI recognition. He also recalled the important efforts made by Bhuttico at the time to secure recognition for the traditional product.<\/p>\n

He said GI recognition has helped protect the traditional weaving style associated with Kullu Shawls while also creating more secure employment opportunities for a new generation of weavers.<\/p>\n

GI certification and natural dyes seen as alternatives to mechanisation<\/h4>\n

Satya Prakash said handloom weavers are facing increasing competition from machine-made products and stressed the need to strengthen the distinctive identity and quality of traditional handloom products.<\/p>\n

He said the effective use of GI recognition and natural dyes can provide weavers with a strong alternative by enhancing the authenticity, uniqueness and sustainability of handloom products.<\/p>\n

According to him, promoting traditional skills alongside environmentally friendly production methods can help handloom artisans remain competitive while preserving the cultural heritage associated with their crafts.<\/p>\n

Practical training on GI and natural dyeing<\/h4>\n

Workshop organisers Vipin Kandhol, In-charge, National Handloom Development Corporation, and Assistant Manager Balendra Sachan provided detailed information on GI-related aspects and natural dyeing.<\/p>\n

They also shared practical techniques and finer aspects of natural dyeing with participating weavers and trainees, giving them an opportunity to understand the application of natural colours in handloom production.<\/p>\n

The workshop was attended by around 110 handloom weavers and students of ITI Shamshi.<\/p>\n

Certificates distributed to 39 trainees<\/h4>\n

As part of the programme, certificates were presented to 39 trainees by chief guest Thakur Satya Prakash in recognition of their participation in the workshop.<\/p>\n

The event brought together handloom sector representatives, government officials, industry representatives and trainees, providing a platform for knowledge-sharing and discussion on the future of traditional handloom production.<\/p>\n

Handloom representatives and experts attend<\/h4>\n

Senior Bhuttico representatives present at the workshop included Senior Vice-President Rohit Thakur, Director Madan Lal, along with Sohan Singh, Atma Ram, Jogdhyan, Prem Singh and Indra Devi.<\/p>\n

Bhuttico Chief General Manager Surti Devi, General Manager Dinesh Thakur, Kishan Chand, Kavita Thakur, Assistant Engineer Anuj Thakur, Chief Adviser Ramesh Thakur and Production Adviser Bahadur Singh were also present.<\/p>\n

Experts in dyeing and design from the Weavers\u2019 Service Centre participated in the workshop and contributed to the technical sessions.<\/p>\n

The workshop concluded with an emphasis on strengthening the handloom sector through GI awareness, skill development, sustainable dyeing practices and greater access to government support programmes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
