Memphis Crime Falls Nearly 36% One Year After Launch of Federal Safe Task Force, White House Says.<\/h1>\n

Overall crime in Memphis has fallen by nearly 36 per cent over the past year, according to figures released by the White House to mark the first anniversary of the Memphis Safe Task Force, a multi-agency federal, state and local law-enforcement initiative launched in September 2025.<\/p>\n

President Donald J. Trump established the task force on September 15, 2025, directing coordination among federal, state and local agencies to address violent and street crime, outstanding warrants, illegal firearms and other public-safety concerns in Memphis.<\/p>\n

According to the White House’s September 15, 2026 figures, murders have declined 36 per cent, sexual assaults 28 per cent, motor vehicle thefts 57 per cent, robberies 42 per cent, shoplifting 44 per cent and aggravated assaults 26 per cent. The administration said Memphis is on pace for its lowest overall crime level in 25 years. Across Shelby County, it reported that violent crime has fallen by more than 30 per cent, while major property crime has declined by more than 40 per cent.<\/p>\n

12,747 Arrests Reported<\/h4>\n

As of September 15, 2026, the task force reported 12,747 arrests. The figures released by the White House include 131 homicide-related arrests, 1,363 narcotics arrests, 1,276 arrests for firearms violations, 125 arrests for sex offences and 1,408 arrests of people identified as known gang members.<\/p>\n

Authorities also reported the seizure of 2,160 illegal firearms and the recovery of 189 missing children.<\/p>\n

Crime Decline Follows Drop Recorded in 2025<\/h4>\n

The latest figures follow a significant decline reported in Memphis during 2025. The White House said overall crime fell 28 per cent between 2024 and 2025, while murders declined 26 per cent and robberies fell 31 per cent. Memphis recorded fewer than 200 murders in 2025, the first time that had occurred since 2019.<\/p>\n

The White House has presented the latest figures as evidence of progress following the task force’s deployment. However, the statistics alone do not establish how much of the decline was caused specifically by the federal operation, as crime trends can be influenced by multiple law-enforcement, demographic and community factors.<\/p>\n

Federal, State and Local Agencies Working Together<\/h4>\n

The task force was created to facilitate cooperation between federal, state and local authorities. Its mandate includes sharing information, developing joint enforcement priorities, increasing law-enforcement resources and coordinating investigations and public-safety operations.<\/p>\n

The administration has highlighted the reduction in crime and the task force’s enforcement figures as key outcomes of the first year of the initiative.
