SCO Economic Ministers Meet in Dushanbe; India Calls for Greater Trade, Connectivity and Supply-Chain Cooperation.<\/h1>\n

The 25th Meeting of Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Member States responsible for foreign economic and foreign trade activities was held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, on September 17, with India calling for stronger economic cooperation based on the three pillars of Security, Connectivity and Opportunity.<\/p>\n

The meeting reviewed ongoing economic and trade cooperation among SCO member states and discussed measures to expand intra-SCO trade, reduce trade costs, strengthen supply chains and improve regional connectivity.<\/p>\n

Representing India, Yashvir Singh highlighted the substantial economic potential of the SCO and stressed the need to convert that potential into tangible outcomes through greater market access, efficient connectivity and resilient supply chains.<\/p>\n

Referring to the vision articulated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the SCO Summit in Bishkek, India underlined the economic importance of the three pillars of Security, Connectivity and Opportunity. India said resilient supply chains, trusted connectivity and wider business opportunities were essential for strengthening economic cooperation among SCO economies.<\/p>\n

India also emphasised trade facilitation and digitalisation as important tools for reducing the cost and time involved in international trade. It called for simplified customs procedures, paperless trade and electronic exchange of trade documents, along with stronger multimodal connectivity and shorter transit times.<\/p>\n

The Indian delegation further advocated greater cooperation in strategic and emerging sectors, including agriculture, critical minerals, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing and electronics. Cooperation in energy security, renewable energy and green hydrogen was also highlighted.<\/p>\n

India stressed the importance of enabling MSMEs and start-ups to participate more effectively in regional and global trade through digital and cross-border payments and accessible trade finance. It also called for greater participation of SCO economies in global value chains and reiterated support for an open, inclusive and rules-based multilateral trading system with the WTO at its core.<\/p>\n

The meeting adopted the Statement of the Ministers of the SCO Member States Responsible for Foreign Economic and Foreign Trade Activity. Ministers also agreed on the Action Plan for 2026\u20132030 for implementing the SCO Programme of Multilateral Trade and Economic Cooperation, subject to further approval by the SCO Council of Heads of Government.<\/p>\n

The ministers also approved regulations for a special SCO working group on the development of the creative economy.<\/p>\n

The meeting took note of updates from the SCO Business Council and the Tajik side regarding the SCO Consortium of Economic Analytical Centres.<\/p>\n

The next ministerial meeting is scheduled to be held in Uzbekistan in 2027.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
