Ayush Ministry Expands Artificial Intelligence Initiatives to Strengthen Ayurveda and Traditional Medicine.<\/h1>\n

The Ministry of Ayush is advancing the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to strengthen Ayurveda and the wider Ayush sector, building on the digital infrastructure created through Ayush Grid.<\/p>\n

The Ministry is exploring AI applications across healthcare, research, education, information services and investment facilitation. The emerging ecosystem combines specialised AI applications with collaborations involving national AI and digital technology initiatives.<\/p>\n

AI-Powered Services for Citizens, Students and Researchers<\/h4>\n

At the citizen-facing level, the MAISP Chatbot has been developed to provide easily accessible information on Ayush systems, including Ayurveda, through a conversational interface.<\/p>\n

The ARP Research Assistant, a Generative AI-based tool, extends the Ayush Research Portal and is designed to help researchers navigate Ayurveda and other Ayush-related literature more efficiently.<\/p>\n

The eLMS Chatbot introduces AI-enabled Student Life Cycle Management for Ayurveda and other Ayush educational institutions. Meanwhile, the e-CHARAK Chatbot functions as a medicinal-plant trade assistant, linking conversational AI with the ecosystem supporting Ayurvedic pharmacology.<\/p>\n

The Ministry has also developed Yoga Saarthi, an AI chatbot providing yoga recommendations, and Nivesh Saarthi, an AI assistant aimed at facilitating investment in the Ayush sector.<\/p>\n

Together, these applications reflect the evolution of Ayush Grid from conventional digital portals towards interactive, intelligent and citizen-oriented services.<\/p>\n

Ayurveda AI Use Case Featured in Global Health Casebook<\/h4>\n

At the IndiaAI Impact Summit 2026, the AI Impact Casebook on Health, developed in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO), featured a dedicated Ministry of Ayush use case titled \u201cAI-driven Decision Support for Ayurveda: A Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) Approach.\u201d<\/p>\n

The inclusion of the Ayurveda application in the global health AI casebook highlights the potential of Generative AI and Retrieval-Augmented Generation technology to improve access to evidence-based Ayurvedic knowledge and support the broader digital transformation of traditional medicine.<\/p>\n

Focus on AI Solutions for Healthcare<\/h4>\n

The Ministry is also participating in the IndiaAI Innovation Challenge, focusing on the development of AI-enabled solutions specifically suited to the requirements of the Ayush sector.<\/p>\n

Among the identified use cases are voice-based Electronic Health Records, disease-trend detection and personalised treatment-support solutions. These initiatives seek to use AI to strengthen healthcare delivery, generate clinical insights and support patient-centric care across Ayurveda and other Ayush systems.<\/p>\n

The Ministry said the development of such applications is intended to complement traditional systems of medicine by making knowledge more accessible and supporting evidence-based approaches.<\/p>\n

WHO, ITU and WIPO Highlight AI’s Role in Traditional Medicine<\/h4>\n

The growing focus on AI and traditional medicine also follows the release of a technical brief by the World Health Organization, International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) on July 11, 2025.<\/p>\n

Titled \u201cMapping the Application of Artificial Intelligence in Traditional Medicine,\u201d the technical brief examines potential applications of AI in traditional medicine while highlighting the need for responsible, evidence-informed and culturally appropriate approaches.<\/p>\n

The document also addresses the relevance of such approaches to Ayurveda and other traditional medicine systems.<\/p>\n

Collaboration With IndiaAI and Bhashini<\/h4>\n

The Ministry of Ayush has collaborated with IndiaAI and the Digital India Bhashini Division (DIBD), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to explore opportunities involving artificial intelligence, language technologies, digital health and advanced computing.<\/p>\n

Ayush-related artefacts are now available on AI Kosh, supporting wider research, access and dissemination of AI resources in the Ayush and Ayurveda domains.<\/p>\n

The collaboration with Bhashini has also expanded the linguistic accessibility of Ayush digital services. Ayush Grid portals serving Ayurveda practitioners, students and citizens are now available in 22 scheduled languages of India, enabling wider participation across the country’s linguistic diversity.<\/p>\n

Technology to Strengthen Traditional Knowledge<\/h4>\n

The Ministry’s expanding AI ecosystem combines AI assistants with collaborations involving IndiaAI and Bhashini to move towards more intelligent and citizen-centric digital services.<\/p>\n

The Ministry has emphasised that the objective is not to replace traditional Ayurvedic knowledge with technology. Instead, Artificial Intelligence is being explored as a tool to strengthen, connect and amplify traditional knowledge by making it more discoverable, evidence-based and accessible.<\/p>\n

The initiatives are aimed at extending the reach of Ayurveda and other Ayush systems to citizens in India and internationally while supporting research, education, healthcare and investment through emerging digital technologies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
