Sowa Rigpa Holds Significant Potential in Education, Research and Healthcare: Ayush Secretary.<\/h1>\n

Sowa Rigpa has significant potential for expansion in education, research, healthcare, documentation and standardisation, Secretary of the Ministry of Ayush Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha said while calling for greater efforts to strengthen the traditional system of medicine and enhance its recognition at national and international levels.<\/p>\n

Kotecha was speaking at the valedictory session of a three-day National Workshop on \u201cScope and Challenges of Sowa Rigpa Post-Recognition\u201d, organised by the National Institute of Sowa Rigpa (NISR), Leh, at the New Academic Building in Saboo Thang.<\/p>\n

Highlighting the growing relevance of traditional systems of medicine, Kotecha said Sowa Rigpa offers considerable opportunities across education, research and healthcare. He also stressed the need for systematic documentation and standardisation to strengthen the system and facilitate wider recognition.<\/p>\n

Addressing students and young scholars, the Ayush Secretary encouraged them to approach emerging challenges with confidence, dedication and innovation. He urged the younger generation to explore new possibilities and contribute to the advancement of Sowa Rigpa.<\/p>\n

The workshop brought together experts, scholars, practitioners, administrators, students and other stakeholders from across the Himalayan region. Discussions focused on the evolving opportunities and challenges facing Sowa Rigpa following its recognition as a system of medicine.<\/p>\n

Technical sessions covered institutional development, education, research, healthcare practices, preservation of traditional knowledge, standardisation and emerging opportunities in the post-recognition era. The discussions provided a platform for stakeholders to exchange experiences and ideas aimed at strengthening the academic, professional and institutional framework of Sowa Rigpa.<\/p>\n

The event was also organised as part of the National Ayurveda Day celebrations, highlighting India’s diverse traditional systems of medicine and their contemporary relevance.<\/p>\n

Dr Padma Gurmet, Director of the National Institute of Sowa Rigpa, welcomed Kotecha and expressed gratitude for his continued support for the preservation and promotion of Sowa Rigpa.<\/p>\n

Dr Tenzin Kunphel, Chairman, Central Council of Tibetan Medicine (CCTM), Dharamsala; Dr Dorje Damdul, Associate Professor and Dean, Faculty of Sowa Rigpa and Bhot Jyotish, Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies, Sarnath, Varanasi; and Dr Phunsok Wangchuk, former Director, Health and Ayush, UT Ladakh, were among the dignitaries present.<\/p>\n

The dignitaries shared their experiences and perspectives on the development, academic prospects and research potential of Sowa Rigpa.<\/p>\n

Following the valedictory programme, participants visited the Trans-Himalayan Herbal Garden at Phey, where they observed medicinal plants being cultivated and conserved. The visit provided participants with practical exposure to the region’s rich medicinal plant diversity and complemented the academic discussions held during the workshop.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
