Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today inaugurated a state-of-the-art MRI machine worth Rs. 23 crore at Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College and Hospital, Nerchowk, strengthening advanced diagnostic services in the region.<\/p>\n

He also inaugurated a Tertiary Care Cancer Centre equipped with LINAC and CT Simulator machines, established at a cost of Rs. 2.29 crore, and laid the foundation stone for a dedicated PET Scan Machine Block, estimated to cost Rs. 51 crore.<\/p>\n

Health sector among government’s top priorities<\/h4>\n

Interacting with faculty members and students of the medical college after the inauguration, Sukhu said strengthening the health sector was one of the key priorities of the state government.<\/p>\n

He said the government was working to equip all medical colleges in Himachal Pradesh with modern healthcare facilities so that people could access specialised treatment closer to their homes instead of travelling to distant cities.<\/p>\n

The Chief Minister said state-of-the-art automated laboratories were also being established in medical colleges across the state. These laboratories would allow multiple tests to be conducted from a single sample, reducing the need for patients to repeatedly provide samples and making the diagnostic process more convenient and efficient.<\/p>\n

He said the government was simultaneously focusing on modern technology, infrastructure development and strengthening medical services at government medical colleges.<\/p>\n

PET Scan facility to strengthen cancer care<\/h4>\n

Sukhu said a PET Scan machine had already been installed at IGMC Shimla. He noted that the current waiting period for a PET Scan at IGMC was around one month, while patients had to wait approximately four months for the procedure at AIIMS Delhi.<\/p>\n

The proposed PET Scan facility at Nerchowk is expected to further expand access to advanced diagnostic services for patients in Mandi and surrounding areas.<\/p>\n

ICU capacity to be increased to 30 beds<\/h4>\n

Reviewing healthcare services at Nerchowk Medical College, the Chief Minister said 123 nurses had already been deployed at the institution, while additional nurses would be recruited according to requirements.<\/p>\n

He also announced an expansion of the medical college’s Intensive Care Unit. 25 to 30 additional ICU beds will be established, increasing the institution’s capacity to provide critical care to seriously ill patients.<\/p>\n

320 additional PG seats planned<\/h4>\n

Sukhu said the state government would increase the number of postgraduate medical seats by 320 this year.<\/p>\n

He said Senior Residency programmes had already been started at Nerchowk Medical College as well as Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda. According to the Chief Minister, these initiatives would help increase the availability of specialist doctors while creating additional opportunities in medical education.<\/p>\n

Overseas exposure for medical students and faculty<\/h4>\n

The Chief Minister said the government was considering sending MBBS students and faculty members from the state’s medical colleges on overseas exposure visits.<\/p>\n

The proposed initiative would familiarise students and doctors with modern healthcare practices, advanced treatment procedures and international healthcare systems and technologies. He said necessary steps in this direction would be taken soon.<\/p>\n

Sukhu also said the government was working to strengthen two to three major medical departments in each medical college on a priority basis. The objective, he said, was to expand specialised treatment facilities within the state and reduce the need for patients to travel outside Himachal Pradesh.<\/p>\n

800 technical and paramedical posts sanctioned<\/h4>\n

The Chief Minister said availability of adequate technical and paramedical personnel was another priority of the government.<\/p>\n

He said the state government had sanctioned 800 posts for technical and paramedical staff and was continuously working to ensure that healthcare institutions had the necessary human resources along with modern equipment and technology.<\/p>\n

Sukhu said the government’s objective was not merely to expand healthcare infrastructure but to ensure that medical institutions were equipped with modern technology, specialist doctors, trained staff and advanced diagnostic facilities.<\/p>\n

He said these efforts would enable people of Himachal Pradesh to access quality and specialised healthcare services within the state itself.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
