Security forces have neutralized senior Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander Musa, alias Asif Fauji, in an intelligence-led joint operation at Gurwatkalan in the Khansahib police station area of Budgam district, Jammu and Kashmir.<\/p>\n

According to the security agencies, Musa had been under sustained pursuit for a considerable period. A specific plan involving multiple stakeholders was recently put in place after technical and human intelligence inputs indicated his movement and presence in the area.<\/p>\n

The operation is being described by security agencies as a significant setback to the LeT network operating in Jammu and Kashmir.<\/p>\n

Fourth Senior LeT Commander Neutralized<\/h4>\n

With Musa’s death, security forces have neutralized all four senior LeT commanders of a group that had been operating in Jammu and Kashmir since 2022 and had been linked by security agencies to several major attacks in the region.<\/p>\n

The other three commanders were neutralized in separate encounters:<\/p>\n

– Junaid Bhat \u2014 neutralized on December 3, 2024, in Dachigam.
\n– Suleman \u2014 neutralized on July 28, 2025, during Operation Mahadev.
\n– Yasir \u2014 neutralized on September 4, 2026, during Operation Asdhar.
\n– Musa alias Asif Fauji \u2014 neutralized on September 30, 2026, at Gurwatkalan in Budgam.<\/p>\n

Security agencies have linked members of the group to several attacks, including the Halan attack in August 2023, DKG attack in December 2023, Kandi attack in May 2023, Shahsitar attack in May 2024, Shiv Khori attack in June 2024, Gagangir attack in October 2024, Bootapathri attack in October 2024 and Baisaran attack in April 2025.<\/p>\n

Operation Sheruwali<\/h4>\n

The operation leading to Musa’s neutralization was part of an ongoing, long-sustained counter-terrorism operation identified as Operation Sheruwali, which began in May 2026.<\/p>\n

Security forces had been working on intelligence inputs regarding Musa’s movements and presence before the latest operation was launched. The coordinated effort involved security agencies working together to locate and neutralize the commander.<\/p>\n

Coordination Among Security Agencies<\/h4>\n

Over the past several years, the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Indian Army and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) have been conducting counter-terrorism operations in close coordination across Jammu and Kashmir.<\/p>\n

Security agencies said the continued coordination among different forces has contributed to counter-terrorism operations and efforts to disrupt militant networks operating in the Union Territory.<\/p>\n

The neutralization of Musa marks the latest development in these sustained operations and comes as security agencies continue efforts to identify and dismantle terrorist networks and their operational infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
