AGRI-VET 2026 to Bring Together Eminent Scientists, Academicians and Researchers to Explore Sustainable Farming and Climate-Resilient Livestock Solutions.

Shimla:

Abhilashi University, Mandi, is set to host the 2nd International Conference on Climate-Smart Agriculture and Veterinary Solutions: Challenges and Opportunities (AGRI-VET 2026) from October 15 to 17, 2026. The three-day international conference is being organized in collaboration with the Society for the Advancement of Agricultural, Horticultural and Allied Science (SAAHAS), Kurukshetra, Haryana.

The conference aims to bring together eminent scientists, academicians, researchers and experts from India and abroad to deliberate on emerging challenges in agriculture and veterinary sciences, with a particular focus on climate change, sustainable farming practices, livestock management and innovative approaches to strengthening agricultural resilience.

The conference will be conducted in a hybrid mode, featuring two days of on-campus sessions and one day of online proceedings. The platform is expected to facilitate meaningful academic exchanges, encourage research collaborations and promote the development of practical solutions to address the growing challenges faced by the agricultural and livestock sectors.

Several distinguished experts are expected to participate in the conference, including Dr. Rajbir Singh, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension), Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR); Dr. Hans Raj Khanna, Joint Commissioner, National Livestock Mission, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying; Dr. Baldev Raj Gulati, Director, ICAR-National Institute of Veterinary Epidemiology and Disease Informatics (NIVEDI), Bengaluru; Dr. Arun Sharma, Assistant Director, Animal Health/Breeding, Kullu; Dr. Mohar Singh, Principal Scientist and Head, ICAR-National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources (NBPGR), Shimla; and Dr. Salej Sood from ICAR, Kufri.

Briefing about the conference, the Vice Chancellor of Abhilashi University said the primary objective of AGRI-VET 2026 is to bring together experts and researchers from across the globe to develop sustainable and climate-resilient strategies for safeguarding agricultural and livestock-based economies. The conference will also provide an opportunity to exchange scientific knowledge, discuss emerging technologies and explore innovative approaches to improving agricultural productivity while addressing the challenges posed by changing climatic conditions.

Chancellor Dr. R. K. Abhilashi and Pro-Chancellor Dr. L. K. Abhilashi emphasized the importance of the conference as a premier platform for strengthening collaboration among academia, industry and the research community. They expressed confidence that the event would contribute to a sustainable transformation in farming and veterinary sciences by encouraging scientific innovation, knowledge sharing and the adoption of environmentally responsible practices.

The university continues to strengthen its position as one of Himachal Pradesh’s prominent institutions of higher learning, particularly in the fields of agricultural and veterinary education. Its academic ecosystem includes professionally accredited programmes such as the Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry (B.V.Sc. & A.H.) and B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture.

These programmes are supported by modern laboratory infrastructure, experimental research farms and dedicated veterinary clinical facilities, providing students with opportunities for practical learning, research and professional development. The university’s focus on agriculture and veterinary sciences reflects the growing importance of scientific education and research in addressing regional and national agricultural challenges.

Prof. P. C. Sharma, Dean of the School of Agricultural Sciences, said the conference aims to promote high-impact research, encourage the development of sustainable hill and dryland farming technologies, and identify actionable climate-smart solutions to enhance crop productivity while protecting the natural ecosystem.

He highlighted the importance of developing agricultural practices that can withstand climate-related challenges while ensuring the efficient use of natural resources. Sustainable farming technologies, improved crop management practices and scientific interventions in livestock production are expected to be among the key areas of discussion.

The conference is expected to provide a valuable opportunity for researchers, scientists and academicians to share their findings, identify emerging research priorities and explore collaborative initiatives for the future of agriculture and veterinary sciences.

With climate change increasingly influencing crop production, livestock health and rural livelihoods, AGRI-VET 2026 is expected to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on sustainable agricultural development and the adoption of innovative, climate-resilient solutions, particularly for hill regions such as Himachal Pradesh.
