Himachal Pradesh Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi has warned of strict legal action against anyone found guilty of illegally collecting money from people in the name of processing claims under the Forest Rights Act (FRA) in Lahaul-Spiti district. He directed the administration to investigate allegations of extortion and ensure that eligible people receive their rights without exploitation.<\/p>\n

The minister was chairing meetings in Kaza to review matters related to the Forest Rights Act, Forest Rights Committees, land acquisition and Nautor land allotment. During the meetings, allegations of money being demanded from applicants for facilitating FRA claims were discussed.<\/p>\n

Negi said the process of filing claims under the Forest Rights Act should be transparent and accessible to eligible beneficiaries. He clarified that applicants could submit their claims along with the necessary documents and evidence without paying money to any individual or organisation for getting their applications processed.<\/p>\n

He directed the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) to examine the allegations and take appropriate action if any irregularities or illegal collection of money were established. He warned that those found guilty would face legal consequences under the applicable provisions.<\/p>\n

The minister emphasised that claims must be examined according to the prescribed procedure, with the Gram Sabha and designated committees playing their respective roles. No individual or organisation could guarantee approval of a claim in exchange for money, he said.<\/p>\n

He also directed officials to examine complaints regarding the collection of signatures from residents in connection with FRA matters and verify whether these had been obtained transparently and for legitimate purposes.<\/p>\n

Negi said the government was committed to protecting the rights of people living in tribal areas and ensuring that eligible beneficiaries were not misled or exploited. He asked the administration to spread awareness about the application procedure, eligibility requirements and the responsibilities of the concerned committees.<\/p>\n

The minister urged residents to report any demand for unauthorised payments to the administration. He said transparency, accountability and adherence to the law were essential to ensure that the benefits of the Forest Rights Act reached genuine beneficiaries.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
