Shimla:

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Friday laid the foundation stone of an indoor ice skating rink-cum-roller skating rink at Sakoh in Dharamshala, Kangra district. The project will be constructed at a cost of Rs. 33.78 crore and aims to provide modern sports infrastructure in the region.

The proposed facility will feature a range of amenities, including a gymnasium, billiards room and café on the basement floor. The ground floor will house a VIP lounge, while an upper balcony will provide seating for 1,079 spectators.

The project will also include an open roller skating rink with a capacity to accommodate 250 persons, along with parking facilities for 250 vehicles. The infrastructure is expected to provide improved opportunities for sports enthusiasts and promote skating activities in the region.

During the foundation stone-laying ceremony, Sukhu directed the concerned authorities to complete the project within the stipulated timeframe while maintaining high standards of construction quality. He emphasised the importance of timely execution and ensuring that the facility meets the required standards.

Rs. 9.82-Crore Sanitation Facility Dedicated

On the occasion, the Chief Minister also dedicated a state-of-the-art faecal sludge and septage management (FSSM) facility for Dharamshala town. The facility has been constructed at a cost of Rs. 9.82 crore and is designed to strengthen sanitation infrastructure and improve the scientific management of faecal sludge and septage.

The facility has a designed processing capacity of 60 kilolitres per day (KLD). It will serve seven unsewered wards of Dharamshala, covering approximately 7,500 households.

The facility is expected to benefit households in areas without sewerage connections by providing a dedicated system for the management and treatment of faecal sludge and septage. It will also support improved sanitation services and contribute to better environmental management in the town.

The inauguration of the sanitation facility and the launch of the sports infrastructure project marked two separate initiatives focusing on urban sanitation and sports development in Dharamshala.
