Delhi Police has registered multiple first information reports (FIRs) in connection with alleged violations of prohibitory orders in Connaught Place during the \u2018Lehra Do Tiranga\u2019 protest organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) a day earlier, police sources said on Saturday.<\/p>\n

According to sources, a crowd gathered in and around Connaught Place on Friday despite repeated announcements by the police asking people to disperse. The gathering allegedly violated restrictions imposed by the authorities, prompting the police to initiate legal action.<\/p>\n

The prohibitory orders had been issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which empowers authorities to issue directions to prevent potential disturbances to public order and maintain public safety. The orders prohibited mass gatherings in Connaught Place and adjoining areas.<\/p>\n

Hundreds of CJP supporters and student activists participated in a series of flash protests across Connaught Place on Friday. The demonstrations took place amid a heavy police deployment in the area, as protesters raised demands for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.<\/p>\n

The protest, held under the banner \u2018Lehra Do Tiranga\u2019, drew attention to the political demands raised by the demonstrators. Police personnel were deployed at various locations in and around Connaught Place to enforce the restrictions and prevent any disruption to public order.<\/p>\n

Sources said the police repeatedly appealed to the gathering to disperse in view of the prohibitory orders. However, as people continued to assemble at different locations, the authorities proceeded with registering multiple FIRs over the alleged violations.<\/p>\n

The cases relate to the alleged defiance of restrictions on public gatherings. Further details regarding the number of FIRs, the specific allegations and the individuals named in the cases were not immediately available.<\/p>\n

Section 163 of the BNSS provides authorities with the legal mechanism to issue urgent orders in situations where immediate action is considered necessary to prevent obstruction, danger to human life or safety, public disturbance, or other potential threats to public order.<\/p>\n

The registration of the FIRs marks the beginning of legal proceedings into the alleged violations. The allegations will be subject to investigation and the applicable legal process.<\/p>\n
