CM Launches Sanjauli-Rampur Helicopter Service, Announces Flights to Hamirpur, Chamba and Palampur Within Four Months.<\/h1>\n

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Wednesday launched a helicopter service between Sanjauli and Rampur, fulfilling his promise made during his visit to Rampur. The service, introduced under the Centre’s Regional Connectivity Scheme (UDAN), will operate three days a week under the Heli-HOP Himachal Helicopter Service.<\/p>\n

The Chief Minister also announced that helicopter services to Hamirpur, Chamba and Palampur would be launched within the next four months, further strengthening air connectivity across Himachal Pradesh.<\/p>\n

Under the new schedule, the helicopter will depart from Sanjauli at 9:55 am and arrive in Rampur at 10:30 am. It will then leave Rampur at 10:50 am for Reckong Peo, reaching its destination at 11:25 am. The return flight from Reckong Peo will depart at 11:30 am and arrive in Rampur at 12:05 pm. The helicopter will subsequently leave Rampur at 12:10 pm and reach Sanjauli at 12:45 pm.<\/p>\n

The service will operate every Monday, Friday and Saturday, providing passengers with a faster and more convenient travel option in the mountainous region.<\/p>\n

Addressing the gathering, Sukhu said the helicopter service was not merely a means of transportation but also a symbol of changing times, progressive thinking and new development opportunities for the hill state. He said improved air connectivity would significantly reduce travel time, boost tourism, strengthen local businesses and generate employment opportunities.<\/p>\n

The Chief Minister said the state government was committed to connecting every corner of Himachal Pradesh through helicopter services. Efforts were also underway to identify suitable land in Shimla to strengthen air connectivity and expand aviation facilities.<\/p>\n

He said the state government was bearing the entire cost of Viability Gap Funding (VGF) for the helicopter services, spending approximately Rs. 35.70 lakh per month to support their operation. The financial assistance was aimed at making air travel services viable and accessible in the state’s remote and geographically challenging areas.<\/p>\n

Sukhu further said that work was underway to construct and develop 16 heliports across Himachal Pradesh, including facilities at all district headquarters. The initiative would expand air transport infrastructure and improve connectivity to remote areas.<\/p>\n

Highlighting the government’s efforts to strengthen aviation infrastructure, he said sustained work was also being undertaken to expand Gaggal Airport in Kangra district. The state government had disbursed Rs. 2,400 crore from its own resources to landowners towards land acquisition for the airport expansion project.<\/p>\n

He said that after the airport’s expansion, the government would work towards connecting all district headquarters through helicopter services. This would facilitate tourist movement, improve accessibility and create new livelihood opportunities for local youth.<\/p>\n

The Chief Minister said the government’s vision was to connect remote areas of Himachal Pradesh with better transportation facilities, save people’s time and ensure that development opportunities reached every region.<\/p>\n

He added that improved air connectivity would be particularly beneficial for people living in remote and difficult-to-access areas, while also supporting tourism and economic activities across the state.<\/p>\n
