Kullu Dussehra Takes Himachal’s Cultural Heritage to the World: Mukesh Agnihotri.

International artists showcase cultural diversity at Global Dance event; foreign performers join Himachali Nati.

Shimla:

Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri on Thursday said the International Kullu Dussehra festival was playing a significant role in taking Himachal Pradesh’s rich cultural heritage, folk traditions and Dev Sanskriti to national and international audiences. He said the festival had evolved over the years into a major international event while continuing to preserve its historical significance and traditional roots.

Agnihotri made these remarks after witnessing cultural performances by artists from different countries and Indian regions during the Global Dance programme at the Rath Maidan in Dhalpur, Kullu. He said Kullu Dussehra had established itself as one of Himachal Pradesh’s most prominent cultural events, attracting attention from across the country and abroad.

The Deputy Chief Minister said the festival had expanded its appeal by introducing new attractions alongside its traditional celebrations. The Global Dance programme, laser shows based on the concept of Ram Rajya and drone displays had added to the grandeur of the event, making it more attractive to visitors and tourists. He said people across the world looked forward to Kullu Dussehra, which was strengthening Himachal Pradesh’s cultural identity on the international stage.

He appreciated the efforts of Kullu MLA Sunder Singh Thakur in introducing new initiatives and enhancing the scale and appeal of the festival. Congratulating everyone associated with the successful organisation of the event, Agnihotri expressed hope that Kullu Dussehra would continue to achieve greater recognition in the coming years.

Global Dance Promotes Cultural Exchange and Friendship

Highlighting the importance of the Global Dance programme, Agnihotri said cultural exchanges between countries helped promote mutual understanding, harmony and friendship. Around 15 countries were represented at this year’s festival, with international artists sharing the stage with performers from different parts of India.

""

Artists from the United States, Russia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan and Malaysia, among other countries, participated in the programme. Performers from Ladakh, Spiti and other parts of Himachal Pradesh also presented their traditional dances in colourful ethnic attire, showcasing the diversity of their respective cultures, customs and lifestyles.

Agnihotri said such international gatherings provided local residents with an opportunity to experience different cultures while allowing foreign visitors to understand Himachal Pradesh’s rich folk traditions and artistic heritage.

He emphasised that international participation did not diminish the uniqueness of Himachali culture. Instead, cultural interaction helped bring its distinctive features into sharper focus. He said Himachal Pradesh’s folk traditions continued to retain their identity and significance even as they interacted with cultures from across the world.

Foreign Artists Dance to Himachali Nati

One of the highlights of the Global Dance programme was the enthusiastic participation of foreign artists in Himachali Nati. When performers presented the traditional dance to the popular Pahari song “Laga Dolo Ra Dhamaka,” artists from other countries also joined in, matching their steps to the lively rhythm.

""

The performance created an atmosphere of celebration and cultural unity, demonstrating how music and dance could transcend geographical boundaries and bring people together. The participation of international artists in the traditional Himachali dance emerged as a memorable moment of the programme.

Artists representing different countries and regions also presented colourful performances in their traditional costumes, offering the audience a glimpse into the cultural richness and diversity of their respective communities.

Deputy CM Seeks Blessings of Lord Raghunath

During his visit, Agnihotri visited the camp of Lord Raghunath, the presiding deity of Kullu Dussehra, and sought blessings. He also toured various departmental exhibitions set up as part of the festival to showcase government initiatives, activities and achievements.

Later, he attended the second cultural evening of Kullu Dussehra at the Lal Chand Prarthi Kala Kendra as the chief guest.

Himachal Pradesh Congress in-charge Rajni Patil, Kullu MLA Sunder Singh Thakur, Milkfed Chairman Buddhi Singh Thakur, APMC Kullu and Lahaul-Spiti Chairman Ram Singh Mian, District Congress Committee president Shesh Ram Azad, general secretary Virendra Kumar, Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Sharma, Superintendent of Police Abhishek S. Payasakar, Kullu Municipal Council president Asha Thakur, vice-president Shalini and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
