Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Saturday virtually inaugurated adventure water sports activities at the Kol Dam reservoir in Aehan, Mandi district, from Shimla, marking a new initiative to promote tourism and generate employment opportunities in the region.<\/p>\n

The state government plans to develop adventure water sports facilities along an approximately 35-kilometre stretch of the reservoir, extending from Aehan to Tattapani. The initiative is aimed at attracting more tourists, creating avenues for self-employment among local youth and strengthening the regional economy.<\/p>\n

Addressing the occasion, the Chief Minister said the natural beauty of the Kol Dam reservoir and its tourism potential offered considerable opportunities for developing adventure-based recreational activities. The government has decided to expand water sports in the area to provide visitors with new experiences while creating economic opportunities for local communities.<\/p>\n

Under the initiative, tourists will be able to enjoy a range of activities, including speedboat rides, jet skiing, banana boat rides and bumper rides. A mini cruise boat with a capacity of 20 passengers will also be introduced, allowing visitors to explore the reservoir while enjoying its scenic surroundings.<\/p>\n

Focus on Tourism and Employment<\/h4>\n

Sukhu said the state government was making continuous efforts to promote tourism across Himachal Pradesh, with adventure and water sports emerging as important components of the strategy. He noted that tourism supports the livelihoods of lakhs of families across the state and contributes to government revenue.<\/p>\n

He added that similar water sports activities had already been introduced in Bilaspur. The government aims to develop Himachal Pradesh as a leading tourism destination by expanding recreational facilities and making better use of the state’s natural attractions.<\/p>\n

The development of water sports at Kol Dam is expected to create opportunities for local residents in tourism-related services, including boat operations, hospitality and other supporting activities. The initiative could also encourage visitors to spend more time in the region, benefiting local businesses.<\/p>\n

Initiative Welcomed by Local Leaders<\/h4>\n

Former Chief Parliamentary Secretary Sohan Singh Thakur said the Chief Minister’s vision for promoting tourism was now taking shape through the launch of these activities. He said the state government was consistently working to expand tourism opportunities and improve livelihood prospects across Himachal Pradesh.<\/p>\n

Expressing confidence that the initiative would boost tourism and increase local residents’ incomes, Thakur said such projects could contribute to the state’s goal of becoming self-reliant.<\/p>\n

Speaker of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Kuldeep Singh Pathania, Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi, Vice-Chairman of the State Planning Board Bhawani Singh Pathania and Advocate General Anup Rattan were among the dignitaries present in Shimla during the virtual inauguration.<\/p>\n
