CM Sukhu Flags Off Walkathon to Launch Health Department’s Sports and Cultural Club.

Initiative aims to promote physical fitness, mental well-being, teamwork and Himachal Pradesh’s traditional culture among health department employees.

Shimla:

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Saturday flagged off a walkathon from his official residence, Oak Over, to the Indira Gandhi State Sports Complex in Shimla to mark the launch of the Sports and Cultural Club of the Department of Health and Family Welfare.

Officers and employees of the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare participated in the walkathon, which was organised to promote physical fitness, healthy living and a spirit of participation among departmental personnel.

Addressing the occasion, the Chief Minister said the primary objective of establishing the club was to encourage physical fitness, mental well-being, sportsmanship, cultural activities and a healthy lifestyle among officers and employees of the department.

He expressed hope that the club would provide a platform for employees to participate in sports, cultural and recreational activities beyond their routine professional responsibilities. Such initiatives, he said, would help strengthen teamwork, discipline, mutual cooperation and camaraderie among departmental personnel.

Focus on Fitness and Employee Welfare

Sukhu said the club would organise sports tournaments, athletic competitions, cultural programmes and recreational activities to encourage employees to remain physically active and maintain a balanced lifestyle.

He emphasised that physical fitness and mental well-being were important for creating a positive working environment, particularly in a department responsible for delivering essential healthcare services to the public.

The Chief Minister said the club would also help identify and nurture sporting and cultural talent among employees, providing them opportunities to showcase their abilities and participate in various activities.

He added that the initiative would encourage healthy competition while promoting unity, harmony and a sense of belonging among officers and employees working in different wings of the department.

Promotion of Himachal’s Traditional Culture

The Chief Minister said the club would also play an important role in preserving and promoting the traditional culture of Himachal Pradesh through cultural programmes and related activities.

He noted that combining sports, cultural participation and recreational opportunities could contribute to the overall development and welfare of departmental employees.

The initiative is expected to create opportunities for employees to interact beyond their regular workplace responsibilities, strengthen professional relationships and foster a more active and cooperative work culture.

Health Minister Among Dignitaries Present

Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. (Col.) Dhani Ram Shandil, Horticulture Minister Jagat Singh Negi, Secretary Health Ashish Singhmar, Director Health Services Dr. Gopal Beri and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

The launch of the Sports and Cultural Club marks an effort by the Health and Family Welfare Department to integrate fitness, recreation and cultural engagement into the lives of its officers and employees.
