Himachal Wildlife Board Approves Development and Border Infrastructure Proposals, Seeks Panchayat-Wise Monkey Data.<\/h1>\n

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Saturday chaired the 12th meeting of the State Board for Wildlife, Himachal Pradesh, during which several proposals related to industrial development, strategic border infrastructure, road connectivity, forest land diversion and wildlife conservation were discussed and approved.<\/p>\n

The meeting deliberated on balancing the state’s developmental requirements and national security priorities with environmental protection and wildlife conservation. The Board approved all the proposals placed before it, subject to applicable statutory provisions and the requirements of environmental protection and wildlife conservation.<\/p>\n

Among the key decisions, the Board approved the establishment of an Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) and intermediates manufacturing unit by CMG Biotech Private Limited at Plot Nos. 53 and 54 in Phase-I of the Sansarpur Terrace Industrial Area in Kangra district.<\/p>\n

The Board also considered proposals for diverting forest land for strategic infrastructure along the international border. These included the diversion of 1.78.20 hectares of forest land in favour of the 17th Battalion of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Reckong Peo, for establishing Border Out Post Lalung at Muhal Lalung and Dhar Chokula in Kaza tehsil of Lahaul-Spiti district.<\/p>\n

Another proposal involved the diversion of 1.60 hectares of forest land for the establishment of Forward Post Nithal Thach in Kinnaur district in favour of the 2nd Battalion of the ITBP, Babeli Camp, Kullu.<\/p>\n

The Board also considered a proposal for diverting 00-27-50 hectares of forest land within the Rakcham-Chhitkul Wildlife Sanctuary for developing military infrastructure at Nagasti in Sangla tehsil of Kinnaur district. The infrastructure is proposed by 11 MAHAR Regiment\/Headquarters 136 (Independent) Infantry Brigade Group to strengthen strategic preparedness along the northern border.<\/p>\n

Industrial Expansion and Road Connectivity<\/h4>\n

The proposed expansion of the existing secondary metallurgical unit of Goyal Furnace Private Limited was also discussed and approved. The expansion plan involves increasing the production capacity of mild steel (MS) ingots from 19,200 tonnes per annum to 96,600 tonnes per annum. It also includes installing an additional induction furnace, a continuous casting machine and a rolling mill to manufacture 77,280 tonnes per annum of rounds, angles, channels, TMT bars and flats.<\/p>\n

In another major decision concerning road connectivity, the Board considered the diversion of 4.72 hectares of forest land within the Shikari Devi Wildlife Sanctuary for the widening and upgradation of the Bhulah-Shikari Devi Road. The proposal has been submitted by the Himachal Pradesh Public Works Department’s Seraj Division in Mandi district.<\/p>\n

Measures to Reduce Wildlife Deaths on Highway<\/h4>\n

The Board also discussed the increasing number of wildlife deaths caused by road accidents along the Pung-Bhuwana Tunnel stretch of the Kiratpur-Manali Four-Lane Highway (NH-154) in Suket Forest Division of Mandi district.<\/p>\n

The discussion focused on the need to improve wildlife safety and introduce appropriate measures to reduce animal fatalities on the highway stretch. The issue assumes significance as road infrastructure expands through areas where wildlife movement needs to be protected.<\/p>\n

The Chief Minister also sought panchayat-wise data on monkey populations from the Wildlife Wing. The information is expected to help the government assess the situation and plan appropriate interventions.<\/p>\n

Durgesh Aranya Zoological Park Reviewed<\/h4>\n

Sukhu reviewed the ongoing construction of the Durgesh Aranya Zoological Park at Bankhandi in Dehra, Kangra district, and directed officials to expedite the work.<\/p>\n

The zoological park is an important wildlife-related project for the state, and the Chief Minister stressed the need to ensure progress in its construction.<\/p>\n

Postcards and Technical Book Released<\/h4>\n

On the occasion, the Chief Minister released two postcard series titled \u201cHimachal’s Wild Icons\u201d and \u201cHimachal’s Wild Heritage.\u201d The series have been brought out by the Wildlife Wing of the Himachal Pradesh Forest Department in collaboration with the Himachal Pradesh Postal Circle, Shimla. The initiative highlights the state’s wildlife and natural heritage.<\/p>\n

He also released the book \u201cSimplified Procedures for Analysis of Physio Chemical Tests in Water Samples,\u201d authored by Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Head of Forest Force) Sanjay Sood.<\/p>\n

Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi, Deputy Chairman of the Himachal Pradesh Planning Board Bhawani Singh Pathania, MLA Sanjay Awasthy, Principal Secretary M.
