AIIA-iCAINE Launches National Ayurveda AI Challenge on Sixth Foundation Day.<\/h1>\n

Two MoUs signed to promote Ayurveda innovation and industry\u2013academia collaboration; new IPR facility launched.<\/h2>\n

The All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi, celebrated the sixth Foundation Day of its incubation centre, AIIA-iCAINE, on Thursday with a series of initiatives aimed at promoting innovation, entrepreneurship and technological advancement in the Ayurveda sector. The major highlights included the launch of a National Ayurveda Artificial Intelligence (AI) Challenge, signing of two strategic Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), and the inauguration of an Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Facility for Ayurveda.<\/p>\n

The celebration also featured a capacity-building workshop on entrepreneurship, branding, pricing strategies and design thinking to strengthen the startup ecosystem in the traditional medicine sector.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the occasion, AIIA Director Prof. P. K. Prajapati highlighted the incubator’s contribution towards promoting innovation and translating Ayurvedic knowledge and research into practical solutions, products and business ventures.<\/p>\n

He said that over the past six years, AIIA-iCAINE had supported 52 problem statements and mentored more than 100 startup ideas. Additionally, nine startups had received seed funding of \u20b93 lakh each to help them advance their entrepreneurial initiatives.<\/p>\n

The major attraction of the celebration was the launch of ‘AyushTech Innovate: National Open Ayurveda AI Challenge’, organised by Techfest, IIT Bombay, in collaboration with the Ministry of Ayush and AIIA.<\/p>\n

The challenge will utilise AyurParam, an open-source Ayurveda Large Language Model developed by IIT Bombay, to encourage the development of reliable, transparent, safe and practical AI-based solutions for Ayurveda. It will focus on addressing challenges related to Ayurvedic clinical practice, retrieval of classical texts, research, treatment planning and public health awareness.<\/p>\n

The national grand finale of the challenge is scheduled to be held at IIT Bombay from December 15 to 18, 2026.<\/p>\n

As part of efforts to strengthen research, innovation and commercialisation in Ayurveda, AIIA-iCAINE signed two strategic MoUs.<\/p>\n

The first MoU was signed with the World Ayurveda Foundation (WAF) to establish the ‘AI in Ay \u2013 Secretariat for Artificial Intelligence in Ayurveda’. The initiative will provide a collaborative platform for advancing AI-based research, innovation and entrepreneurship. It will facilitate joint research projects, funding and CSR proposals, capacity-building programmes, hackathons and startup incubation, while utilising WAF’s national and international networks to promote responsible AI applications in Ayurveda.<\/p>\n

The second MoU was signed with Reliance Retail Limited (Pahadi Local) to facilitate the development of commercially viable skincare products based on classical Ayurvedic knowledge. Under the collaboration, Reliance Retail will undertake product development, testing, manufacturing and marketing, while providing formulation advisory support. The partnership aims to create opportunities for commercialising Ayurveda-based innovations and strengthening industry\u2013academia collaboration.<\/p>\n

Another significant initiative was the launch of an Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Facility for Ayurveda. The facility will create awareness about intellectual property protection and guide innovators and entrepreneurs in safeguarding their innovations during product development and commercialisation.<\/p>\n

The Foundation Day programme also included specialised sessions on entrepreneurship and business development. Jessica from Reliance Retail Limited conducted a masterclass on branding, while Sujith Eranezhath, CEO of AIIA-iCAINE, led sessions on pricing strategies and design thinking.<\/p>\n

The workshops covered user-needs assessment, problem identification, ideation, prototyping, testing and the development of practical, user-centric solutions for the Ayurveda sector.<\/p>\n

Other highlights included a briefing on the Smart India Hackathon (SIH), the launch of the Techfest Hackathon, the release of Ayupreneur: A Beginner’s Glossary and the distribution of grants to the winners of SIH 2025.<\/p>\n

The programme began with a welcome address by Dr Arun Kumar Mahapatra, Head of Incubation. Prof. (Dr.) Sreenivasa Prasad Buduru attended as the chief guest, while Prof. P. K. Prajapati delivered the presidential address. The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks by Sujith Eranezhath, CEO of AIIA-iCAINE, followed by a networking session.<\/p>\n

Established on October 29, 2021, under the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, AIIA-iCAINE is recognised as India’s first public-sector Ayurveda business incubator.
