These projects aim to balance power supply from renewable sources like solar and wind energy.<\/p>\n<p>The State Cabinet recently approved the establishment of the first two PSPs: the 1,630 MW Renukaji Pump Storage Project in Sirmaur district and the 270 MW Thana Plaun Pump Storage Project in the Beas Basin of Mandi district, to be managed by Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd (HPPCL).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGiven its hilly terrain, Himachal Pradesh is ideally suited for Pumped Storage Projects,\u201d said CM Sukhu. \u201cThese projects will ensure grid stability and help mitigate power shortages during peak demand by utilizing stored water to generate electricity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pumped Storage Projects work by using low-cost electricity to pump water from a lower reservoir to a higher one during off-peak hours. When demand increases, the stored water is released through turbines, converting potential energy into electricity.<\/p>\n<p>Both projects are already under construction, with distinct powerhouses designated for regular generation and the PSP system. The Renukaji project will have a capacity of 40 MW, while Thana Plaun will generate 191 MW, featuring separate turbines for the PSP system.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the Swaran Jayanti Policy, 2021, the state prioritizes the development of PSPs and will invite proposals and Pre-Feasibility Reports biannually. \u201cThese initiatives align with our commitment to boost revenue through hydro projects and position Himachal Pradesh as a leading state in the country,\u201d added Sukhu.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to these projects, SJVNL has identified four pumped storage initiatives totaling 2,570 MW, while BBMB, NTPC Limited, and the private sector have also outlined numerous projects, collectively indicating a significant potential for growth in the state\u2019s energy sector.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Himachal Pradesh Launches Major Pumped Storage Projects to Boost Renewable Energy Capacity. &nbsp;
