CAQM Relaxes GRAP Restrictions on Educational Institutions in Compliance with Supreme Court Order.<\/h1>\n

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has announced a relaxation of certain restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) for educational institutions in the National Capital Region (NCR), including Delhi, as directed by the Hon’ble Supreme Court. The revised order, issued today, eases restrictions under Clause 11 of GRAP Stage-III, Clause 5 of GRAP Stage-IV, and Clause 8 of GRAP Stage-IV, specifically in relation to colleges and educational institutions.<\/p>\n

In accordance with the Supreme Court’s directive, educational institutions, including schools up to 12th standard, will now be allowed to conduct classes in a “Hybrid” mode\u2014both physically and online\u2014wherever feasible. This decision impacts the territories of the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi and NCR districts including Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, and Gautam Buddh Nagar. Students and their guardians have the option to choose online education where it is available.<\/p>\n

The Supreme Court, in its order, recognized the challenges posed by the ongoing air quality issues, particularly during the winter months, and acknowledged the adverse impact on students’ education. The Court noted that many students lack access to online education and that the closure of schools has deprived children of essential services such as mid-day meals.<\/p>\n

CAQM\u2019s move aims to strike a balance between ensuring educational continuity and protecting students from poor air quality. The hybrid model offers flexibility while adhering to the Supreme Court’s recommendation for relaxation of certain GRAP measures for educational institutions.<\/p>\n
