On November 26, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered an address at the Constitution Day celebrations held at the Supreme Court, marking the 75th year of India\u2019s Constitution. He began his speech by extending heartfelt wishes to all citizens and paying tribute to the Constitution and its framers, particularly Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, who had emphasized that the Constitution is not merely a legal document but embodies the spirit of the age.<\/p>\n

Reflecting on the challenges faced by India over the past 75 years, PM Modi highlighted that the Constitution has been a guiding force in overcoming each obstacle, including the Emergency and regional challenges like Jammu & Kashmir. He noted that the Constitution’s dynamic nature has enabled it to evolve with the times, addressing the changing needs and aspirations of the Indian populace.<\/p>\n

The Prime Minister emphasized that the country’s vision of a “Developed India” aligns with the values of social justice and equality enshrined in the Constitution. He pointed to significant steps taken in the past decade, including financial inclusion with over 53 crore bank accounts opened, provision of homes for over 4 crore citizens, and ensuring women\u2019s access to gas connections, all aimed at improving quality of life for every citizen.<\/p>\n

Further, he praised India\u2019s inclusive policies, citing advancements in women’s political participation, the recognition of the third gender, and the empowerment of differently-abled citizens. PM Modi also highlighted key social welfare initiatives such as free healthcare for senior citizens and the expansion of immunization coverage, which have brought tangible improvements to the lives of millions.<\/p>\n

In closing, he recalled Dr. Rajendra Prasad’s words from the final speech of the Constitution Assembly on November 26, 1949, stressing the importance of placing the nation\u2019s interests above personal gain.
