The Israeli government is set to meet today to vote on a ceasefire deal in Gaza, following a recommendation from the security cabinet to approve the agreement. The decision, which comes after weeks of intense conflict between Israel and Hamas, has sparked mixed reactions and raised hopes for a potential end to the violence.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that the first hostages held by Hamas are expected to be released as early as Sunday, should the deal be approved. This announcement has offered a glimmer of hope to many, particularly the families of the hostages and those living in fear amid the ongoing conflict.<\/p>\n

In Gaza, however, the situation remains dire. Despite the announcement of a ceasefire deal on Wednesday, Israeli airstrikes continue, and the Palestinian civil defense agency has reported that 116 Palestinians have been killed since the deal’s announcement. The casualty toll continues to rise as the conflict persists.<\/p>\n

The displaced Palestinians expressed their desire for peace, stating, “We just want peace now.”<\/p>\n

The conflict erupted on 7 October 2023 when Hamas launched a brutal attack on Israel, killing approximately 1,200 people and taking 251 hostages, sparking a massive Israeli military response. Since then, the Israeli offensive on Gaza has resulted in significant loss of life, with more than 46,800 Palestinians reported dead according to the Hamas-run health ministry.<\/p>\n
