Russian President Vladimir Putin, 71, won the recent Presidential elections by securing 87.97 per cent of the votes in Russia on Sunday. With a six-year term set to follow, he will become Russia\u2019s longest-serving leader in more than 200 years.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Russian President Vladimir Putin today.<\/p>\n

\u201cLook forward to working together to further strengthen the time-tested Special & Privileged Strategic Partnership between India and Russia in the years to come,\u201d PM Modi said in a post on X.<\/p>\n

Leaders of China and North Korea also congratulated the Russian President. The United States, meanwhile, denounced the polls.<\/p>\n

A White House National Security Council spokesperson said, \u201cThe elections are obviously not free nor fair given how Putin has imprisoned political opponents and prevented others from running against him.<\/p>\n

Putin has addressed thousands of people in Moscow’s Red Square, after claiming a landslide election win on Sunday.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, Vladimir Putin won a fifth term as Russian president by a landslide of 87% votes. He faced no credible opposition in this election.<\/p>\n

Germany called it a “pseudo-election”, while the US said the vote is “obviously not free nor fair”<\/p>\n

But China, India, Iran, and North Korea backed the result.<\/p>\n
