In a move aimed at improving infrastructure and enhancing the aesthetic appeal of Shimla, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Friday announced that Rs. 146.34 crore will be allocated for the construction of underground utility ducts across the city. The ambitious project will cover areas from Chhota Shimla to Willy Park and other key locations in Shimla.<\/p>\n

While presiding over a meeting of the Public Works Department (PWD) to review the ongoing construction work, CM Sukhu emphasized the importance of completing the project on time. He expressed confidence that the initiative would not only bolster Shimla\u2019s infrastructure but also increase the footfall of tourists and provide significant benefits to local residents.<\/p>\n

“This project will ensure a reliable and uninterrupted 24×7 power supply to consumers, even during heavy snowfall and adverse weather conditions that Shimla often faces,” said Sukhu. He further explained that the underground ducts would house utilities like water pipelines, electrical lines, and fiber cables in a unified system, reducing the need for frequent road digging and subsequent repairs.<\/p>\n

Sukhu stressed that the project aligns with the state’s vision of a “Green Himachal,” prioritizing environmental sustainability while modernizing the city\u2019s infrastructure. He urged officials to ensure that construction work would proceed smoothly without causing inconvenience to residents or tourists.<\/p>\n

The Chief Minister also highlighted the ongoing efforts of the current state government to develop tourism infrastructure. “Our government has initiated several schemes to attract more tourists, and projects like these will help make Shimla a more appealing destination while improving the overall quality of life for its citizens,” he added.<\/p>\n

The meeting was attended by key figures including Additional Chief Secretary K.K. Pant, Principal Secretary Devesh Kumar, Secretary to the Chief Minister Rakesh Kanwar, and senior officers from the Public Works Department.<\/p>\n
