In a landmark achievement for India’s floriculture sector, the first-ever export of Anthurium flowers from Mizoram to Singapore has been successfully facilitated. This milestone was achieved with the collaborative efforts of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) and the Department of Horticulture, Government of Mizoram. The historic event took place on February 26, 2025, and was marked by a hybrid (phygital) flag-off ceremony in Aizawl.<\/p>\n

The ceremonial flag-off was led by Abhishek Dev, Chairman of APEDA, and Ramdinliani, Special Secretary of the Department of Horticulture, Government of Mizoram. Key stakeholders, including officials from APEDA, the Mizoram Government, the Zo Anthurium Growers Cooperative Society, IVC Agrovet Pvt. Ltd., and Veg Pro Singapore Pte. Ltd., were present to witness the event.<\/p>\n

The consignment, which includes 1,024 Anthurium cut flowers weighing 70 kg, was packed in 50 corrugated boxes and shipped from Aizawl, Mizoram, to Singapore via Kolkata. The flowers were sourced from the Zo Anthurium Growers Cooperative Society, marking a significant step for Mizoram\u2019s floriculture sector in the international market. The flowers were imported by Veg Pro Singapore Pte. Ltd., further strengthening the export relationship between the two regions.<\/p>\n

Anthurium, a prominent flower cultivated in Mizoram, has become an essential source of livelihood and economic empowerment for local farmers, including many women in the region. Mizoram\u2019s annual \u201cAnthurium Festival\u201d also plays a key role in promoting tourism and highlighting the flower’s ornamental value. This export marks a critical expansion of the flower\u2019s market reach beyond domestic borders, opening new avenues for growth.<\/p>\n

The export of Anthurium flowers follows the successful International Conclave cum Buyer-Seller Meet (IBSM), held by APEDA in collaboration with the Government of Mizoram in December 2024. The event saw participation from international buyers from Singapore, UAE, Nepal, and other countries, and helped establish key trade connections for Mizoram\u2019s floriculture products.<\/p>\n

In FY 2023-2024, India\u2019s floriculture exports reached USD 86.62 million, and this initial export from Mizoram is a vital step in expanding the floriculture trade, particularly from the North Eastern Region (NER). APEDA is dedicated to nurturing the region\u2019s immense potential by promoting horticultural and floricultural products through strategic export initiatives and partnerships.<\/p>\n

The successful export of Anthurium flowers underscores the growing importance of the North Eastern Region in India\u2019s agricultural export landscape, and highlights the role of APEDA in facilitating India\u2019s presence in the global floriculture market.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
