In a powerful address at the College of Defence Management (CDM), Secunderabad, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan emphasized that survival in today\u2019s rapidly evolving battlespace is not just about being the fittest, but about those who can adapt, transform, and position themselves to seize emerging opportunities. Gen Chauhan was speaking to the future strategic leaders undergoing the Higher Defence Management Course (HDMC-20) on the complexities of navigating the 21st-century security landscape.<\/p>\n

Gen Chauhan’s address focused on the importance of adaptability, resilience, and visionary leadership amidst the rapidly shifting global power dynamics, emerging non-traditional threats, and technological advancements, particularly in areas like Artificial Intelligence (AI) disruption. He highlighted that the ability to manage these fast-paced changes would be critical in addressing contemporary and future security challenges.<\/p>\n

The CDS stressed the importance of adopting a “whole of nation” approach to security, where synergy and collaboration among various stakeholders are key to an effective response. He underscored the role of the Indian Armed Forces in shaping the country’s national security strategy and its growing capacity to confront both traditional and non-traditional threats.<\/p>\n

During his address on National Security Architecture and Change Management in the Year of Defence Reforms<\/em>, General Chauhan delved into the ongoing transformation within the Department of Military Affairs (DMA). He discussed efforts towards fostering jointness, integration, and synergy within the Indian Armed Forces, while also providing insights into the roadmap for Vision 2047. This vision articulates the future direction for India\u2019s armed forces, including the development of joint doctrines, military policies, and the Integrated Capability Development Plan.<\/p>\n

Gen Chauhan also highlighted the Atmanirbharta initiatives spearheaded by the DMA, aimed at enhancing self-reliance in defence capabilities and reducing dependence on foreign sources for military hardware and technologies.<\/p>\n

The CDS took the opportunity to engage with faculty members and course participants, including officers from friendly foreign countries, stressing the need for innovation, experimentation, and collaboration within the defence establishment. He emphasized that these practices would be crucial in maintaining a strategic advantage in the ever-evolving global security environment.<\/p>\n
