Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, today directed all district administrations to complete a comprehensive mapping of the drug networks, including suppliers and consumers of heroin known as \u2018Chitta\u2019, by April 20, 2025. The Chief Minister expressed his dissatisfaction with the lack of progress, noting that despite previous instructions to complete the mapping by March 15, no district had met the target.<\/p>\n

In a high-level meeting convened in Shimla, the Chief Minister specifically instructed all Superintendents of Police (SPs) to compile detailed dossiers on drug peddlers and consumers, focusing on the panchayat level. He emphasized the importance of approaching this task with the utmost seriousness and warned that incorrect or incomplete reports would lead to accountability for the concerned officers. CM Sukhu further stated that he would personally review the progress on April 20 and would conduct surprise inspections at the panchayat level to ensure compliance.<\/p>\n

\u201cEradicating drug abuse is a priority for our government, and we need to intensify efforts to dismantle the drugs network across the state,\u201d said CM Sukhu. He instructed the SPs to ensure strict surveillance and continuous monitoring of drug-related activities and reiterated that properties illegally acquired by the drug mafia would be demolished. He also noted that 259 such properties have already been identified for action.<\/p>\n

Highlighting recent legislative measures, the Chief Minister mentioned the passage of the Organized Crime Control Act and the H.P. Anti-Drugs Act during the Budget Session of the Assembly. He stressed that these laws should be effectively implemented to combat the growing drug menace.<\/p>\n

In a bid to further address the drug issue, CM Sukhu proposed the establishment of drug de-addiction centers in every district. He instructed the Deputy Commissioners (DCs) to identify vacant government buildings that could be repurposed for this purpose.<\/p>\n

The Chief Minister also directed the DCs to prioritize the resolution of public grievances and ensure the timely disposal of cases. \u201cDelaying the resolution of public grievances is no longer acceptable,\u201d he asserted, urging officials to adopt a more efficient approach in addressing citizen concerns.<\/p>\n

Additionally, CM Sukhu encouraged officers at the block level to take an active role in government schools by conducting regular monthly visits. These visits would include raising awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and other social evils while fostering a sense of nationalism and responsible citizenship among students.<\/p>\n

On the welfare front, the Chief Minister reviewed the implementation of the \u2018Vidhwa and Ekal Nari Awas Yojana\u2019 and the \u2018Maharishi Valmiki Kamgar Awas Yojana\u2019. He directed all DCs to expedite the identification of eligible beneficiaries, ensuring they can avail themselves of the benefits without delay.<\/p>\n

The meeting was attended by key officials, including Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena, Secretary to the Chief Minister Rakesh Kanwar, ADGP Abhishek Trivedi, Secretaries Ashish Singhmar and Rajesh Sharma, and DGP Dr. Atul Verma. DCs and SPs participated in the meeting virtually.<\/p>\n
