India and Angola Strengthen Ties: PM Welcomes President Louren\u00e7o on Historic Visit.\u00a0<\/strong><\/h1>\n

In a landmark moment for India-Angola relations, Prime Minister warmly welcomed Angolan President Jo\u00e3o Louren\u00e7o and his delegation to India during a joint press statement held in New Delhi. This visit marks the first by an Angolan head of state in 38 years and comes at a time when both nations are celebrating 40 years of diplomatic relations.<\/p>\n

Terming the occasion as \u201chistoric,\u201d the Prime Minister emphasized the deep-rooted ties between India and Angola, recalling India\u2019s steadfast support during Angola\u2019s struggle for independence.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis visit is not only giving a new direction and momentum to India-Angola ties, but also strengthening India-Africa partnership,\u201d the Prime Minister said.<\/p>\n

Expanding Strategic and Economic Cooperation<\/h3>\n

The Prime Minister highlighted the robust energy partnership between the two countries, with India being one of the largest importers of Angolan oil and gas. He announced a $200 million defence credit line to aid in the modernization of Angola\u2019s armed forces and expressed India\u2019s willingness to cooperate in areas such as defence platform maintenance and personnel training.<\/p>\n

In a bid to deepen development cooperation, India will share its expertise in digital public infrastructure, space technology, and capacity building. Both nations agreed to further collaborate in the fields of healthcare, diamond processing, fertilizers, and critical minerals.<\/p>\n

The Prime Minister noted the popularity of Indian culture in Angola, particularly yoga and Bollywood, which underscores the strong people-to-people ties. A Youth Exchange Programme will soon be launched to strengthen cultural engagement among the youth.<\/p>\n

Angola Joins Indian-Led Global Initiatives<\/h3>\n

India welcomed Angola\u2019s decision to join the International Solar Alliance. In addition, Angola has been invited to become part of several Indian-led global initiatives including the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, Big Cat Alliance, and Global Biofuels Alliance.<\/p>\n

United Against Terrorism<\/h3>\n

The Prime Minister also thanked President Louren\u00e7o and the people of Angola for their condolences following the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, affirming that both nations are committed to a strong stance against terrorism and its supporters. \u201cWe thank Angola for their support in our fight against cross-border terrorism,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

India-Africa Partnership: A Shared Vision for the Global South<\/h3>\n

Recognizing Angola\u2019s leadership as the current chair of the African Union, the Prime Minister extended his best wishes on behalf of 1.4 billion Indians. He praised the historic inclusion of the African Union in the G20 under India\u2019s presidency, calling it a milestone for the Global South.<\/p>\n

Over the past decade, India\u2019s engagement with Africa has grown significantly. Bilateral trade has reached nearly $100 billion, and cooperation in defence and maritime security has expanded. The Prime Minister noted the successful completion of the first India-Africa naval maritime exercise, \u201cAIKEYME,\u201d last month.<\/p>\n

India has also established 17 new embassies in Africa, extended over $12 billion in credit lines, and provided $700 million in grant assistance. Vocational training centres have been opened in eight African nations, and digital infrastructure partnerships have been initiated with five others.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn times of disaster, we have been privileged to serve as ‘First Responders’, standing shoulder to shoulder with the people of Africa,\u201d said the Prime Minister, reaffirming India’s commitment as a trusted partner in progress.<\/p>\n

A Shared Future<\/h3>\n

Concluding his remarks, the Prime Minister expressed optimism that under Angola\u2019s leadership, India\u2019s relationship with the African Union would reach new heights. \u201cIndia and the African Union are partners in progress. We are pillars of the Global South,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

President Louren\u00e7o\u2019s visit is expected to open new avenues for cooperation and reaffirm the strategic bond between India and the African continent.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
