Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the grand \u2018Sikkim@50\u2019 programme via videoconferencing today, commemorating 50 years since Sikkim became the 22nd state of the Indian Union in 1975. Themed \u2018Where Progress Meets Purpose, and Nature Nurtures Growth\u2019<\/em>, the event in Gangtok marked a significant milestone in the state\u2019s democratic and developmental journey.<\/p>\n

Due to inclement weather, the Prime Minister could not attend the celebrations in person but conveyed his heartfelt greetings to the people of Sikkim. He assured them of his intent to visit the state soon to personally witness their achievements and aspirations.<\/p>\n

\n

Honouring 50 Years of Statehood<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In his address, PM Modi lauded the state\u2019s remarkable progress over five decades, describing Sikkim as a model where development coexists harmoniously with nature. He declared, \u201cSikkim is the pride of the nation,\u201d<\/em> highlighting its transformation into a 100% organic state, its role as a biodiversity haven, and its growing economic strength\u2014evident from its high per capita income.<\/p>\n

Reflecting on the state\u2019s integration into India, PM Modi remarked, \u201cFifty years ago, Sikkim not only connected with India’s geography but also with its soul.\u201d<\/em> He praised the diverse communities of the state for their collective contribution to its culture, prosperity, and development.<\/p>\n

Unveiling New Projects and Vision for the Future<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Prime Minister unveiled and laid the foundation stones for multiple projects aimed at boosting healthcare, tourism, sports, and connectivity in Sikkim. These included:<\/p>\n

  • A 500-bed hospital<\/strong> to ensure quality healthcare for all, especially underprivileged families.<\/li>\n

    In a major development for sustainable agriculture, PM Modi announced the establishment of India\u2019s first organic fisheries cluster<\/strong> in Soreng district.
