On the occasion of World Environment Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi planted a sapling at Bhagwan Mahavir Vanasthali Park in Delhi, giving a significant push to the nationwide green initiative \u2018Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam\u2019 and reinforcing the government’s resolve to rejuvenate the Aravalli range under the Aravalli Green Wall Project.<\/p>\n

The event marks a pivotal moment in India’s environmental efforts, aligning with the global theme of restoration and reforestation. The Prime Minister’s participation aims to inspire citizen involvement and drive community-led environmental stewardship, particularly among the youth.<\/p>\n

Addressing the gathering, PM Modi highlighted the historical and ecological significance of the Aravalli range, one of the oldest mountain systems in the world, which stretches across Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Delhi. He emphasized the urgent need to address multiple environmental challenges faced by the region, such as deforestation, water scarcity, soil erosion, and the eastward expansion of the Thar Desert.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur commitment to the environment is unwavering. The Aravalli Green Wall project is a crucial step toward rejuvenating this ecologically sensitive zone,\u201d said the Prime Minister. \u201cWe are also introducing modern plantation techniques suited for urban and semi-urban areas, where space is limited. Every sapling planted will be geo-tagged and monitored via the Meri LiFE portal to ensure transparency and accountability.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u2018Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam\u2019 initiative, which translates to \u201cOne Tree in the Name of Mother,\u201d is a symbolic and emotional call for every citizen to plant and nurture at least one tree, in honor of their mother. It is part of a larger mission to combat climate change and increase India\u2019s green cover.<\/p>\n

The Aravalli Green Wall initiative is a multi-state effort aimed at developing a 1,400 km-long green belt to act as a natural barrier against desertification and environmental degradation. It supports broader national efforts to mitigate climate change and promote sustainable development.<\/p>\n
