NHRC Takes Suo Motu Cognizance of Gang Rape on Gopalpur Sea Beach.<\/h1>\n

 <\/p>\n

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), India, has taken suo motu cognizance of a heinous gang rape incident on the Gopalpur sea beach in Odisha’s Ganjam District. A 20-year-old female college student was allegedly subjected to gang rape by around 10 men on June 15, 2025, while she was celebrating a festival with a male friend.<\/p>\n

NHRC Issues Notices to State Authorities<\/h3>\n

The NHRC has issued notices to the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police, Odisha, seeking a detailed report on the matter within two weeks. The report is expected to include:<\/p>\n

– Status of the investigation
\n– Victim’s health and medical examination
\n– Compensation\/counseling provided to the victim<\/p>\n

Investigation Underway<\/h3>\n

The victim has been sent to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for medical examination. The police have detained seven suspects in connection with the case.<\/p>\n

NHRC’s Concern<\/h3>\n
