In a major initiative aimed at enhancing the safety and welfare of armed forces personnel, the Army Headquarters under the Ministry of Defence has established a dedicated emergency helpline \u2014 155306<\/strong> \u2014 to provide immediate relief and assistance to serving soldiers and retired veterans<\/strong> across India. This helpline will function as a military counterpart to the civil emergency number 100<\/strong>, catering exclusively to defence personnel in times of crisis.<\/p>\n

This important development was announced by Captain Jagdish Verma (Retd)<\/strong>, Chairman of the United Front of Ex-servicemen (JCOs & OR), Himachal Pradesh<\/strong>, through an official press release.<\/p>\n

According to Capt Verma, the helpline has been set up under the aegis of the Military Police at the Army Headquarters<\/strong>, and will be operational 24×7<\/strong>, manned by professionally trained personnel<\/strong>, including members of the Women Military Police<\/strong>. The helpline features call recording<\/strong> and real-time response tracking<\/strong> through a Call Management System (CMS)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Purpose and Functionality<\/h3>\n

The helpline is designed to assist in emergency situations<\/strong> such as:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Road traffic accidents<\/li>\n
  • Medical emergencies<\/li>\n
  • Natural disasters<\/li>\n
  • Serious criminal incidents<\/li>\n
  • Situations requiring immediate intervention<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Defence personnel \u2014 both serving and retired \u2014 can dial 155306 directly without any prefix<\/strong> from any location<\/strong> in India using any major service provider, including BSNL, Jio, and Airtel<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    Upon calling, the user will be prompted to provide key information such as:<\/p>\n

      \n
    • Name and rank<\/strong><\/li>\n
    • Location<\/strong><\/li>\n
    • Service number (if applicable)<\/strong><\/li>\n
    • Brief description of the incident<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Based on the information received, the helpline staff will coordinate with the nearest Military Police unit or local civil police station<\/strong> to ensure prompt action. The CMS will generate a digital response form<\/strong> for each case, enabling tracking and follow-up until the issue is resolved.<\/p>\n

      Scope and Limitations<\/h3>\n

      While the helpline is a significant step toward providing urgent help, certain issues will not<\/strong> be handled through this number, such as:<\/p>\n

        \n
      • Land or property disputes<\/li>\n
      • Marital or family discord<\/li>\n
      • Toll exemptions<\/li>\n
      • Legal or sub judice matters<\/li>\n
      • Routine administrative queries<\/li>\n
      • Minor non-emergency incidents<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        Nationwide Awareness Campaign<\/h3>\n

        The Ministry of Defence has directed that wide and repeated publicity<\/strong> of the helpline be undertaken to ensure maximum awareness among defence personnel. The aim is to familiarize all serving members and veterans<\/strong> with the number and ensure they are able to access support promptly during emergencies.<\/p>\n

        A copy of the official directive<\/strong> from the Integrated Headquarters of the Ministry of Defence, containing detailed instructions and operational guidelines, has also been made available for reference.<\/p>\n
