Himachal Pradesh is on the brink of a transformative leap in its healthcare landscape as the state embraces cutting-edge robotic surgery\u2014fulfilling Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu\u2019s vision of delivering world-class medical facilities to the people.<\/p>\n

In a historic move, the Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialities at Chamiyana, near Shimla, is set to become the first medical institute in Himachal Pradesh<\/strong> where surgeries will be performed using advanced robotic technology. A state-of-the-art robotic surgical system\u2014procured at a cost of Rs. 28 crore<\/strong>, modeled after the facilities at AIIMS Delhi\u2014has already been delivered and is currently under installation. Surgeries using this high-tech system are expected to commence by July 2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

A Milestone in Patient and Doctor Care<\/h3>\n

Principal of the Atal Institute, Dr. Brij Lal<\/strong>, emphasized the dual benefits of robotic surgery for both patients and healthcare providers. \u201cRobotic-assisted procedures require only minimal incisions, leading to significantly reduced blood loss<\/strong>, lower risk of complications<\/strong>, and faster recovery<\/strong> for patients,\u201d he stated. \u201cThis technology allows patients to return home sooner and resume normal activities more quickly.\u201d<\/p>\n

From the doctor\u2019s perspective, robotic systems offer enhanced precision, control, and a magnified 3D view<\/strong> of complex surgical areas. Surgeons are also less likely to experience fatigue during prolonged procedures, which means they can perform more operations efficiently and with improved outcomes.<\/p>\n

Expansion Across the State<\/h3>\n

Following the directives of CM Sukhu, robotic surgical systems will soon be deployed at Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda<\/strong>, with further installations planned at IGMC Shimla, Medical College Hamirpur<\/strong>, and other government medical institutions in a phased manner.<\/p>\n

This move is expected to benefit thousands of patients across the state<\/strong>, significantly reducing the burden of traveling to metros like Delhi or Chandigarh for specialized and often costly surgeries.<\/p>\n
