In a major step toward reviving and promoting traditional Indian health wisdom, Vallabh Government College (VGC), Mandi, hosted a one-day awareness workshop on Ashwagandha<\/strong> \u2014 widely known as the \u201cKing of Herbs\u201d \u2014 under the National Awareness Campaign<\/strong> of the National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB)<\/strong>, Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Held on the college campus, the event witnessed active participation from over 100 attendees<\/strong>, including 60 teachers<\/strong>, 15 students<\/strong>, 10 farmers<\/strong>, and 15 staff members<\/strong>. These teachers, deputed by the Deputy Director of Elementary and Higher Education<\/strong>, came from various educational blocks of Mandi district<\/strong>, with a mission to become health ambassadors<\/strong> in their communities and institutions.<\/p>\n

Chief Guest Highlights Ashwagandha\u2019s Health & Economic Potential<\/h3>\n

The workshop was graced by Dr. Rajesh Kumar<\/strong>, District AYUSH Officer, Mandi, who served as the Chief Guest<\/strong>. In his keynote address, Dr. Kumar emphasized the multifaceted benefits of Ashwagandha \u2014 from boosting immunity and reducing stress to enhancing vitality and supporting overall wellness. He also underlined the importance of safe utilization<\/strong>, dosage guidelines<\/strong>, and how Ashwagandha cultivation<\/strong> could serve as a new source of rural income<\/strong> in Himachal Pradesh.<\/p>\n

Knowledge Sharing and Implementation Strategies<\/h3>\n

The program began with a welcome address<\/strong> by Prof. Sanjeev Kumar<\/strong>, Principal of VGC Mandi, who applauded the collaborative efforts of educational and health institutions in fostering grassroots awareness of traditional health practices.<\/p>\n

Dr. Tara Sen Thakur<\/strong>, Principal Investigator of the campaign, provided an insightful overview of the Ashwagandha Awareness Initiative<\/strong>. She explained the strategies for implementation<\/strong>, importance of community involvement<\/strong>, and shared value-added recipes<\/strong> made with Ashwagandha, showcasing the herb\u2019s diverse culinary applications.<\/p>\n

Prof. Sanjeet<\/strong>, Co-Investigator from the Central University of Himachal Pradesh<\/strong>, offered a compelling presentation on \u201cAshwagandha in Indian Traditional Knowledge Systems,\u201d<\/em> emphasizing its deep roots in Ayurveda and its timeless relevance.<\/p>\n

From the cultivation perspective, Y.K. Sen<\/strong> of Kamaksha Agri & Flori Tech, Sundernagar<\/strong>, educated participants on soil suitability<\/strong>, agronomic practices<\/strong>, and market opportunities<\/strong> associated with Ashwagandha farming. His talk ignited interest among farmers and educators alike about its potential to support both health<\/strong> and livelihoods<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Sapling Distribution and Ashwagandha Snacks Enthrall Participants<\/h3>\n

A major highlight of the event was the distribution of over 500 Ashwagandha saplings<\/strong> to be planted in schools across Mandi district<\/strong>, signaling a tangible start to community-level cultivation efforts.<\/p>\n

In a creative twist, Ashwagandha-based biscuits and snacks<\/strong> were also served during the workshop, delighting attendees and giving them a first-hand experience of the herb\u2019s edible applications.<\/p>\n

Among the dignitaries and faculty supporting the workshop were Vice Principal Prof. Ravinder Kumar<\/strong>, Dr. Deepali Ashok<\/strong>, Dr. Sanjay Narang<\/strong>, Dr. Sanjay Kumar<\/strong>, and Kushal Verma<\/strong>, who contributed to discussions and ensured smooth execution of the event.<\/p>\n
